Default got tires RE-01R 245 45 17 good and bad news

good news: so i got my tires from firestone got a good deal same day service. they did my alignment to almost the exact specs i wanted.

Bad news: my BBS wheels now have blemishes. one has a chip where the center cap is held other have scratches, marks etc near the rim of the wheel.

damn i want to complain so they can at least give me the difference in damages but i dont want to headache.

now i want to just paint my wheels. i knew the service was to good to be true.

this is me venting........

oh the review, yeah that. besides all the drama.

initial thoughts
sidewalls definitly softer than the 070s. what you would expect because they are 245 45 17.

i had a friend of mine with the 070s on. i tried to shake the car by the tire the car would not budge. i was able to shake my car with the 01Rs. not too bad though

road noise is down. ride is softer.

ill give an update when i break em in

fit

wow what a difference really beefy tire. i have 1.4 camber in the back and it looks really close to rubbing. i did not drop my car a whole lot 1 in front 1 in back. but the backs tuck in about 1/4 of an inch.

i think i may have to drop the front a little because now the front looks way to high. I raise it a little in the front to make it easier to steer(less weight it front. i had the front alot lower than the back). Steering wheel feels alot lighter now. Im on megan coilvers by the way.

I got my RE-01Rs and my Prodrive 18x8 GC-05F's at the same time and had a place in Seattle called Kelley (or was it Kelly) Tire mount them. Before they did any work, the man who is essentially my father-in-law had a talk with the manager because he knew I was worried about my brand new $2600 lightweight wheels getting f'ed up. The manager assured him that they work on "lexuses and land rovers all the time" and he'd take care of me.

When all was said and done, all my wheels where scratched and worn down through the paint where the lug nuts mounted, I had a stripped wheel stud and they knocked off a whole $30 or something! YAY!!!!!! Plus I got to drive back on my own time to get the wheel stud replaced.

Turns out they put the shop newb on my STI. Thanks! While the ****ty volvos and lexuses got the good employees

you should've gotten new wheels out of that one.

and most shops put their newb on the tire machine b/c most people don't care.

Nah, he handled everything. He stripped the wheel stud by not finger threading them on first, straight torque'd them. And the end of the torque wrench was really loose, which is why the lug nut holes got so f'ed up.

What firestone did you use. I've used the one on Mira Mesa 8+ times (3 cars) and I've never had a problem- in fact I've always had great service.

i JUST had some FK452s installed on my car last week... wheels came back with scratches around the outer most edges of the wheel too. At least they listened when I said to not use air tools on the lugs.

The normal price at shops is for normal cars and normal care etc. They certainly need to use reasonable care and not "damage" the wheels but there is a certain amount of reasonable marks/scuffs that may occur to the finish.

These are wheels/tires, not works of art that get handled with white cotton gloves.

If you want/need special care and treatment, then you should request it ahead of time and be willing to pay extra if requested.

Then, and only then, do you actually have reason to be pissed about minor cosmetic damage and be able to demand $ etc.

I do agree that worse damages such as gouges etc are the shop's responsibility either way.

"there is a certain amount of reasonable marks/scuffs that may occur to the finish. "

^^^ is what I said, not "****up your rims", that's your creative embelishment.

Did you even read thru my whole post? Gouges = uncool, minor scuffs are part of the deal from these underpaid tire monkeys unless you ask/pay for "special" treatment....

I belive he is right. Certain procedures require EXTRA EXTRA precision when done. Like the automated tire removal. The stock re070's require alot of friction to be removed, hense scuffing. I think the tire machine would have to be specialy greesed, and covered with some sort of slip at the contacting end to avoid any blemishes. These guys get paid minimum wage and could really care less about you're wheels. I wont ever get my tires dismounted without personaly talking to the person that is doing it. My $00.02!!
