Post Volk TE37 Time Attack

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a set of Volk TE37 Time Attacks for my '06 STi. Problem is, is that the place I am going to order them from offers them in the +30mm, +40mm, and +50mm offsets but I have no idea which offsets will fit my car without any serious clearance/rubbing issues. I don't have any suspension components installed on my car yet but I am looking into a set of Tein S-Techs right now. I also want to use Muteki lug nuts but I don't know which set to use, 12x1.25 or 12x1.5, as well as what the advantages/disadvantages are between open and closed end. Any help I can get from you guys would be great. TIA

I think at +40 you should be OK, but it's gonna be pretty tight. +50 is a safe bet. What's the width?

As far as lug nuts, IIRC our cars use the 12x1.25. The only advantage to going with open ends is if you are using lengthened studs (required by some racing leagues). Closed ends will be fine unless you want the studs poking out.

I just looked, it's 18x8.5 +40. That's really tight. And I assume you don't want to run +50s (they'll disappear in your wheel wells and probably won't fit the brakes).

Looks like the best fit is the 18x7.5 +48. That's a made for Subaru fit right there.

DO NOT BUY cheap lugs
i have mcgaurds and there two piece so the lug does not scratch your rim
my dad has te37 time attacks on his m3 and there sick
but once again get some quality lugs to go with quality rims

Cheap lugs are a good way to get them stripped and leave you no way to get them off. Rays lugs are good (but pricey). I had them on my WRX. And I had Gorilla lugs on my STi and they worked nice.

BTW, where'd you get that sweet signature picture?

IMO Rays Lugs belong at a car show and should not be used anywhere else. Aluminum is too soft to hold the duty of keeping the wheel on the car. Why would you have heavy duty bolts and soft nuts?

Remember the fiasco with HKS and their Aluminum Cam gears wearing down?

I've had Rays lugs on my car over a year now and after several removal/remounting of every wheel they have done the job just as good as my stock ones did. If I had it to do over again though I would have bought some Mcguard splinedrive lugs though - the finish lasts longer.

*shrug* I never had a problem with them. Just don't use air tools.

I liked the Gorilla lugs better though 'cause they have a sticker with your key number in case you lose it. And they also didn't look all crappy and dinged up very quickly like the Rays did.

clear a few things up.

18x8.5 +40mm and a 235/40 18 wont have rubbing issues unless you're slammed or refuse to run more than -1.5 camber all around.

ignoring scrub radius this is a really nice setup.

the +50mm in the Time Attacks may or may not clear the brakes, Volk did make an 18x8.5 +50mm that cleared the brembos, but for what ever reason stopped making that specific face or they no longer recommend that size for STI's (STImonster has the 18x8.5 +50mm on his car, or at least did).

and lug nuts have alot to do with the quality of the aluminum and how they are used/abused. some people have issues some people dont, it really depends on the person. But everyone should at least buy QUALITY lugs, not ebay, muteki to name a few.

open ended extended lugs are nice if you're hand spinning lugs on since there is more lug to handle, they do weigh more though.

if you never plan on going to extended wheel studs then open ended lugs are basically pointless.

Do not get the +50's as they will look lame,to far into wheel wells.

What lugnuts would you recommend then if not Muteki's? I want something that won't mar the finish on the wheel and is tuff enough to hold the wheels on.

I have them in +50 offset, and I don't think they look bad at all. At least I'm closer to factory offset ( +53 ) ! At least I'm not putting undo pressure on my wheel bearings. It never even occured to me that the wheels look "lost" in my wheel well ! Because they don't ! You make it sound like you can't see the Volks with a +50 offset. RUBBISH !
