^^ I bet you can, they seem to wear well.

FWIW, a stack of Hoosier cup tires in 245-40-17 are just over an inch taller than a stack of Hoosier R6 in the same size. The cup tires are spec tires so they just have to mark them in the legal size and then make them however they want. It's a one tire brand class anyway...

Very informative thread.

Anyways, I have 17x8" rims on the '07 Limited (stock). Am I really better off going with the 245/40/17 than the 225/45/17 for the RE-01R's? Most people here seem to be going with the 245's on the 8" rims. Any reason why? I know that wider tires are cooler and "higher performace," but is there really that much of a difference (performance wise)?

some people are sticklers for contact patch size, tread width from RE070 to RE01R goes down by 0.4" on the same 225/45/17 size. In my opinion, bigger contact patch FTW. That's why people like the 245s

225 with their vertical sidewalls will ride harsher, have quicker turn in, but less total grip.

245 with their canted sidewalls will ride smoother, have less immediate feel on turn in, but have more total traction.

The above assumes that all else is equal.

So 17x8 will fit with 245/40/17 right? I just gonna order a set pretty soon.
Anyone know how long this special price will end?

I just put 245/45/17 on the stock BBS'. They feel awesome! A lot quieter and real grippy. Got the special deal on tirerack and had them shipped to my door for $642.58

Woohoo. Just received my $100 SCCA rebate from Bridgestone. Total price after rebate for the set of 245/40-17s shipped = $520.

After a month of driving, I can honestly say that these grip better than the RE070s. I don't miss the sidewall stiffness at all, since these feel so much better and more compliant.

Did you mount these on the stock 7.5" rims? I want to go wider than the stock 225's but I have the stock 7.5" rims.

Nope. Mounted on my 8" Rota Torques. Some people have said that they will be OK on the 7.5" rims, but the specs on Tirerack say that 8" is minimum. You could go with the 245/45, which is the size I was going to get initially.

Just got my 245/40/17's mounted on my 06. Can't compliment on the stickieness yet since they only have 30 miles on em, but I can comment about noise and comfort.

Drive over one rumble strip or strip of lane divider bumps and you will smile.
