Lowering the car with smaller diameter tires will lower your car's center of gravity without completely mucking up the suspension geometry. Something to think about.

That said, we're talking about really small differences here.

For those of you that have tracked these tires how do they compare vs the stockers in terms of turn in, progressivity, wear, etc.? Can you compensate for the softer sidewalls by running higher pressures? If so what pressures are you using? The stock tires have been great at the track for me but I've heard good things about the RE-01-R's (especially if I can save a few $'s for more track time ).

My current tires are done and I've got a number of HPDE events coming up so I need to get my replacements soon. I'm running the stock 8" wide rims and will probably go w/ 245/40/R17.

255/45? that's 1" too tall.

hopefully that's a typo of some sort.

im currently running 225/45/17 all season pirelli's... im looking to jump into a summer tire... and these seem like a great choice... im thinking 245/45/17 on the stock 8" wheel... is this a good idea?

Nice to see them drop the price just as I'm getting ready to buy. I have the same dilemma - do I get the 225/45 and put them on my 7.5 BBS, or do I get the 245/40 and mount them on my 8" Rotas?

I have an '04 and I put the 245/40's on my 8" Rota's. They fit nicely and you won't compromise turn in with the 8" rim.

Don't forget about the $100.00 rebate from SCCA (Members only), it's already paid for the year's membership. Kinda funny how I got my renewal notice right after I bought these tires.245-40-17 shipped less rebate is 520.00

FWIW,

REO1Rs are the winningest(?) tires in the Redline Time Attack street tire class so far this year, wet and dry.

To be fair, the 70's are great tires but the R's are still better. I typically run about 35ish on the track which works well. I tried going to 30 but it caused the tire to lose too much sidewall strength and it caused the tire to yield (fold under).

BTW, I use 245-40-17 on the stock 8" wheels. I would think that the 245-45-17 would rub on even a slightly lowered car when driven agressively.

BTW#2, these are street, not race tires even tho they have an "R" in their name. A treadlife rating of UTQG 140 or higher means that it is a street rated tire, below UTQG 140 indicates a race compound tire. A true race compound DOT tire like a Hosier R6 is rated at UTQG 40, will wear out VERY fast, but is worth about 1-3 seconds per lap at many tracks.

A set of O1R's for just over $500 is a smokin' deal!

35ish psi cold or hot? I ran 34 front, 28 rear and I think I will try 34 front, 30 rear next time... or maybe even 32 rear... front gains 6-8 psi on the track... rear doesn't gain as much.

PS still haven't heard back from you on the brakes

35-ish cold. I am getting anywhere from 10-15 psi rise when hot (after a modest cool-off lap).

Due to the high ambient temps and other conditions, I was seemingly stuck in a lap time that I was only barely, if at all, improving on. I actually did 3 laps in a row at 2:04.000 exactly! Consistency is good but that was ridiculous! Since my car was otherwise running well, I was at a loss as to what to do to help lower my times. I already had the best time in the street class but I knew that the temps were dropping and the competition will be going for it. So, i dropped my pressures by about 5psi and dropped my times by about 2 seconds in the final race. Even tho the times improved, I didnt like the way the tires reacted and the sidewalls folded and shuttered during the hardest corners. I also drove like a friggin bull rider on that last lap which is when I got the best time. Unfortunately, my main competition stepped it up even better and beat me for the win. Oh well, I am still really happy with second.

I know, I know, "if you aint winning, youre losing...." Ricky Bobby
