Anyone here able to compare the RE01Rs to the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs? I know the latter are quite new. Just wondering if anyone has any anecdotal experience. I need a new set of trackday tires as of June 7th.

Just curious, but could anyone give me some advice on what tire size I should go with for my new work cr-kai's that I got in 18x8.5 +43? I am on stock suspension right now and dont want any rubbing issues. I really want to get the best grip out of the tires as I will be getting RE-OR1's. Thanks

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

They are $160!!

That seems really good!

245/45ZR17

Is that correct for the BBS wheels? I am lowered on RCE yellow springs...

Will this also not make the tire looks like it's "bubbling" over the wheel? I don't want bubbly tires that look like the wheel is NOT wide enough to support it...

edit:

Why is the same tire more expensive when you drop down to:
245/40/17
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

I'm very confused now...

Thanks,
-Nigel

The 245/40/17 is nearly the exact same diameter as the stock RE070's and fit perfectly on the 17x8 wheels, and don't rub with RCE yellows, I am running them now and have done track days with them as well.

The 245/45/17 is going to be taller, throw off the speedo, and maybe rub. Some people have had luck with that size, some havent.

I have a set of 245/40/17 RE-01R's.

They are mounted on a set of 17x8 Rota G-Force's.

I run this as my daily driver setup right now. They handle absolutely amazing, very predictable, but yet very forgiving.

The 245/40's fit fine on my stock suspension.

I'm now on RCE Tarmac 2 coilovers, at about 14.25" F and 14" R, and they also fit fine, not even close to rubbing.

And I don't wanna hear anything about my ride heights being "tall", I gotta make room for the 17x10's

Why is there such a price difference between the two?

I guess that is what I am really confused about?

Thanks,
-Nigel

They will not have tires on them. I would like to get these tires... but very confused now on the size of the tire.

I want to go as wide as possible that will work with the 05's stock bbs wheel..

I am on RCE yellow springs and their NON lowering camber plates.

I do NOT race my car nor do I plan on it..lol No track events, I just want the widest I can get with the suspension noted above and the bbs wheel.

Thanks much,
-Nigel

I can only guess - maybe they have a lot more inventory of the 245/45/17s and want to get rid of them...

When I got my 245/40/17s they were $146 each from tire rack.

Had mine installed yesterday. Initial impressions are positive. 235 raises the ride height by about .20 (vs. stock 225 070s). Not much, but noticeable behind the wheel. Gearing is a little more drawn out, maybe a good thing with the short-geared '04.

While the initial turn in response is not as immediate, overall grip is much better I took a series of turns( hot, dry pavement) that usually elicit howls of protest from the 070s (even newer ones) and the 01Rs didn't even flinch. Just point and go. These things aren't even scrubbed in yet, either.

Ride quality: Tire noise is quite reduced, a very welcome thing. I'm hoping this continues as they wear. I also took these over a section of road that made the 070s wander all over the place (tramline) and nary a wiggle. Hard to say for sure whether it's the new-ness of the tyres or a continuing (positive) characteristic of the 01R.

I'll try to post a follow up after my Memorial day run at the Dragon.

So what size for all the specs did you get 235/*/17...

Alo is there a reason you went with 235 compared to 245?

I am going to be getting these tires but think I am going to go with 245... since from what I have read is closer tot he stock width of the 070's 225?

Thanks,
-Nigel

235/45/17

I went with these because the BBS on my '04 are 7.5" wide and 245 are too wide for that rim width. If you have 8"+ rims, by all means go with 245.

Wow! Pictures are a million words! That helps me greatly!

That doesn't look bad.. I was expecting to see it like all BUBBLY and not look right.. that hardly looks like it bubbles over at all!

Last question.

since you got the 245/45/17.. really the only difference between that and the 245/40/17 is that your tire is 5mm TALLER right?

Is there a reason why I would want to go with the not so tall tire when going wider?

Thanks,
-Nigel
