Default Pirelli PZeroNero vs Michelin PS2

Okay,
I daily drive my car, but like to drive hard. Hopefully will have some track time this summer, although with my schedule it's hard to tell. Which tire would better suit this purpose? The difference in price is about $220 (michelin is more expensive obviously). For my use is it really worth the extra cash? (I am a college student i.e. broke)

thanks for the help

hi,
I have had the PS2's for about 7k miles, and they are amazing! in the wet and dry, in the dry its extremelly hard to get them to loose traction. If driving on black top its not that hard, but on concrete roads i dont even bother tryin to get the tail out because it understeers so much,and when it doesnt the car just stays neutral it doesnt oversteer.In the wet they are amazing too, they dont loose traction until u hit about 4.5 rpm in a turn, and even then they have great control.
Personally i think they are too expensive, Next time i think i would go with a cheaper tire, evenif its not as good, it would be more fun and enough traction for me. I jsut feel bad driving hard on PS2's becasue they are so expensive...
I think they are the best out there though!... u pay for what u get...

well to b honest i havnet looked into tires in a while, because i dont need them haha.
But for next time i have been thinkin aobut getting some stock ones, not new though, you can find some really good deals here in IWSTI, and stock tires are very good i think, not very good in the rain... but fun... and in the dry they gripped enough i think, some considerably indersteer, but im planning on buying sway bars so that wont be a problem anymore...

Do you want a summer performance tire or an all-season? I think the two you mentioned were all-seasons. Look into the Falken all-season tire, the 462, I think? If you want a summer tire, a lot of people like the Falken RT615, but there are LOTS of summer performance tires to choose from.

the PS2 is NOT an all season tire.

i have them, and love them. just make sure that you put enough air in them.

the pirelli pzero nero is an all season tire, and will not match up to the performance of the PS2. you can't really compare the two.

one has a treadwear rating of 400 and will handle light snow.
the other has a treadwear rating of 220 and will handle dry and wet roads.

to the original poster;

you may want to look into the pilot sport A/S tires if an all season is what you're looking for.

you also mention that you want to do some track time, and you don't want to do that on allseasons so, if you get some snow where you live, you may just have to invest in two sets of tires. a winter set, and a summer/track set.
because one set will not cut it.

Whoops, but hence my confusion. OP needs to decide what he wants in a tire.

yeah sorry for the confusion. I didnt realize the pzero nero was all season, on tire rack it was ultra high performance. I'm definatelly looking for a SUMMER tire, i have another set of wheels/tires for the winter which i cant wait to get off my car. What are some good performance tires, maybe not as expensive as the ps2? thanks again

I would take a look at the falken rt615's. they are less expensive as the ps2's but should be almost as good in the dry.

According to the street-tire competitors of the SCCA Solo Nationals, and just about every other Solo/Track event, the Falken 615s are better in the dry. They are a no-compromise dry-summer tire with no real competition...except the Neova from Yokohama.

Falken 615s...and they are a bargain.

Be good,

im my previous comment i confused the pzero nero with the pzero nero MS
so, you havea valid option there for a summer tire with the pirelli.

however, here are some other tires worth looking at;

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07

ps: what exactly didn't you like abotu the stock tires, they are GREAT in both wet and dry. as long as they have thread on them (wich goes for every tire)
