Default Cheapest place for slicks?

Guys, help me out. I need a cheap place for some cheap autox slicks. Im tired of getting my ass kicked around the track by guys with slicks. Some cheap places for rims would be nice as well. I dont need anything fancy...just some rims/slicks that will make me competive that I can switch at the track. thanks, pauly

there are no "slicks" unless you're in a Modified or Prepared class.

all of those tires are DOT legal R-comps.

you can go to SCCAForums.com and look in the classifieds for some used ones.

or you can go to Tirerack.com and get some.

with a MY04 you wont be able to run as wide as a MY05+ unless you roll the fenders.

what suspension are you running and what class do you plan on running in?

i'm not the guy to tell you where to get "cheap" wheels but i can point you to some inexpensive quality wheels.

a 245/45 17 V710 on either a 17x8 or 17x8.5 is a good setup for autox

Looks like you're in STU right? If that's correct you're stuck with 245mm tires. So I would grab a set of used STI wheels from someone on this board or nasioc, you can get them for 500 or a little less if they have a little curb rash. If not you can usually score a set of rotas or ASA's for around 300-400. For tires ask around in your local club to see if anyone has some connections. You can often find someone who can get a set for a bit cheaper than tire rack, and you also avoid shipping costs Hope that helps.

There is no cheap when it comes to R-comps.
As mentioned keep an eye on the sccaforums classifieds.

new, you'll be looking at ~ $1500 for some Rotas and V710s.

If you want to be competitive, you have to mod with a particular class in mind. I don't know what class your mods put you in, but assuming you are altering boost with the EM, that is BSP minimum, and your car is probably seriously underprepped. Throwing $ at R-comps is not going to get you there.

Let a couple of the guys kicking your ass drive your car for a run or two. If they still kick your ass in your own car, then you know you have other areas to improve.

Honestly you should de-tune/de-mod to STU class and run against other guys on street tires. That is a popular class for STis/Evos to play in. You can take the $ you would have spent burning up tires and spend it on coilovers instead.

I am in SM class, I usually place 2-4th; however, I placed 5th at the last meet. Suspension is stock w/ the exception of sways and ties. Most guys that beat me around the track are running slicks/dot approved slicks of some sort. I was looking into some Rota's w/ V710's. Thanks...

Most of the people running SM in the EESCC events can be beaten by an STU car. If you want to come get 'em, I'll sell you a set of 275/40-17 V710 take-offs, though.

to fit 275/40s you need to either be on stock suspension with a 17x8 +48mm wheel (or stock with 5mm spacer) or coilovers with a slightly lower offset.

most SM cars in ERSCC get beat by a prepped AS STi every weekend

EDIT: that's if we're talking about a MY05+

I know

I know it works for a MY05 on stock suspension i'm not 100% sure how it works on a MY04 with stock suspension and stock rear fenders.

I've always bought my tires used. It seems pretty easy to find tires that have only been used one weekend- at least if you're patient. Used tires will be really cheap around October when the autocross season ends.

Some tires, like Toyo RA-1's, aren't affected much by heat cycles. These make for better used tire purchases. I'd probably stick to buying Hoosiers new. V710's are somewhere inbetween.

Tempting...you ran these on your 04? No issues with a 8" rim? How worn are they? I might be willing to make a day trip if these will actually work.

^I used them on my '04, but with completely different wheels and suspension than you have. I had one that was hosed we could have used for a test-fit tire, but unfortunately just recycled it.

I know a 275 will physically fit on an 8" wheel because the AS people are using them. For that reason, we also know they will fit on OE '05+ suspension with OE wheels. You can probably get an answer to the fit-to-car question on the NABISCO Motorsports forum (assuming you're limited to a high-offest wheel).

What is your wheel size parameter?

The tires are probably 65%, with relatively few cycles. They are in very good shape. In the context of EESCC events, you'd easily get 50 runs out of them.

I plan on getting a set of 17's at 8" wide w/ a 48mm offset. I think the problem will be the rear fenders. It should clear the suspension at stock ride height...should. Ill post the question on NABISCO. Could you PM me how much you want for them.

you need a +48mm to clear inboard, and with brand new tires it'll hit the trailing arm slightly, not enough to cause issue but will rub off some paint.
