you may have too many miles on these tires to just change 1 or 2 tires.

Les Schwab has quite a few CA locations: http://www.lesschwab.com/locator.asp I'm not necessarily saying they are god's gift to tire service, but they do know how to put on a patch... at least they do up here.

In terms of tire rotation, you basically just want to keep putting the least worn tires into the locations where they are wearing fastest (hopefully Nick won't come along with thousands of charts and graphs to discredit that concept, lol.). If you have a relatively conventional alignment and you don't drive like an idiot, your front tires will probably wear a little faster than your rears. There probably won't be too much variation side/side. Swapping front/rear will solve that. You can also swap diagonally, assuming you aren't using asymmetrical directional tires (unless you don't care about utilizing that feature of the tread design).

I swap my wheels at least 100 times/year, so it's just a matter of paying attention to the tire wear when I put the streets back on - NBD. Even if you don't have another reason to swap, it only takes about 20 minutes to do.

Milage isn't a very good indicator. You could wear out a set of 070's in 100 miles, or they could last 30K miles. It depends on the application. Just check the tread depth on both edges and the middle of each tire, and look for idiosyncrasies.

thanks but the closest location is 411 miles away, r u sure they put patches on the side wall? not the tread or the shoulder but between where it says bridgestone and the actual rim? im sorry if that is what u were talking about but everyone is telling me it is illegal and they wont do it, how is a big name place like les schwab doing it?

replace the tire. consider this: a blowout of the sidewall at speed...would you want to be in that position?

Here's a link to a Tire Rack article on sidewall tire repairs. Bottom line is it's not recommended.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=77

It sounds like you made a wise choice in getting a replacement tire.

Have you measured the tread depth of your existing tires as well as the replacement tire? You may find that they're close enough that nothing else needs to be done.

As far as shaving is concerned, I don't think you'll find any shop that will shave a used tire. Shaving a used tire can damage the blades used for shaving and so typically only new tires are shaved.

Hope this helps!
