Well if you want to get picky, the radio and the subs would make him a SM car cause of the weight changes . I know its a dumb rule. I asked my main region guy about that and he said that as long as no one cared about it, you could have them in the car and not have to run SM. But if you are thinking of running a National event, you might have to take the speaker out. It is in the rule book under SM, Pg. 104

16.1.O. Radio/Stereo equipment and/or its component parts, including
wiring, antennas, amplifiers, speakers and their enclosures, etc.
may be added, replaced, or removed provided the part added,
removed or replaced serves no other purpose. Any visible holes
that result from the removal of equipment must be covered with a
cover of unrestricted material. Covers may be used to mount
gauges, switches, etc.

Also a good rule of thum is that if it is not in the rule book under you class, then its not allowed.

STU is a fun class and will keep you on a good budget. I threw that thought out for this year and I am going to run SM

when you've got two top models A6 and V710 thne yes it is the size.

plus the wieght of the vehicle matters alot, the Yaris can't use 315s no matter how soft

I take out a lot of stuff before an event anyways ( the amps, sub, spare tire, etc..).

but they'd be adversly effecting his handling so i doubt he'd get protested at a local or regional event for it.

it may have adverse affects on your fenders if you're not smart and do it with out research.
Exactly, there's something to be said for sidewall control. If you mount 245's on the stock wheels, for example, you'll suffer a small loss in turn-in and responsiveness. But if you mount those same 245's on 17x8.5", the extra width will hold the tire's shape better and help prevent the sidewalls from flexing. But ultimately I don't think you'll ever find the point of "too wide" for autocrossing.

Chris Fleming's COBB-sponsored "Project SM" beast of an STI runs here locally and he runs 315mm R-compounds. His car has custom fenders to support that width without rubbing as far as I know. It grips so well that I've seen a couple snapshots of it up on two wheels. Oh and he crushes the competition every time he shows up.

That is so awsome!!! That car looks so agressive on the web page. Here is a dancing banana to show how awsome that really is.

ultimate tire size also depends on surface temp.

if it's only 40 degrees you'll have a hard time heating up 315s
