Yeah, I understand It's the principle and not the action but what's the difference between using illegal tires and running a catless TBE (that many people on this board run)? They're both equally illegal but people still do it anyways. And I mean come on, It's nothing compared to shooting someone; that's just an unfair comparison.

who knows, say one blows, and insurance doesn't cover the incident b/c you weren't on street legal rubber?

if i wanted to run a street tire for autox it'd be the 255/40 re070

but since they aren't DOT or readily available in the US they aren't legal to use.

IIRC the discussion was that it was the RE040 that they came with. Not the 070 that honda listed on their site. If Im wrong correct me.

Yup, I vote RE01R also. I have 225/45/17 and they stick like crazy. The next "new" tires I buy are gonna be 245/40/17 RE01R's.

You said they stick like crazy. But how are they compared to the REO70's? In terms of hot/cold temp., side wall stiffness, and ware. I absolutely love my REO70's. After I wore them down I got the Michellin PS2's and they were horrible in my opinion. I quickly traded some one my gold BBS' and PS2's for his silver BBS' and new REO70's.

They are stickier than the RE070's but have a softer sidewall. Every street tire has a softer sidewall than the RE070 though, hehe. RE01R still has a plenty stiff sidewall. I can't really compare tire wear, cause I never tracked my RE070's and my RE01R's have seen 2 track days so far. With the 2 track days and many many mountain/canyon runs, my RE01R's are still not quite to the wear bars yet. Damn close though. Considering how sticky the RE01R's are, I would guess they wear out a little faster than the RE070's.

RE040/RE010's came on the regular NSX's. The NSX-R has the RE070's.

I think the compliant ride of the 01Rs contributes to the belief that they have less stiff sidewalls. During normal driving the tires soak up what would be road vibrations really well. However, hit a pothole with them and they shake the cabin like the 070's do. My true test of the tires will be at our test and tune in a few weeks. Up till now, I've pushed them to the point that 245/45/17 615s would have broke and they did not give.

Great responses!! I am gonna go with the RE01R's!!! This was a great write up, thanks for everybody's input and if you didnt read the whole thread i would reccomend it cuz it is very informative through personal expeirience not just specs on tires!
