IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (14) | Yeah the 235/40/18 maybe be ok as a tire - I'm running Gramlite 57F +45mm, and with a 245/40/18 tire, it's pretty border line. The main issue with a +40mm is that it's an additional +5mm of offset, which puts the wheel a bit farther out resulting in a bit more wear on the bearings - a +45mm is already considered aggressive for a 18x8.5. | Amateur STI Driver | I really dont think that a 3mm lower offset will make that much of a difference compared with my current setup +43, 18"x8.5" work emotions. So nobody has these wheels on their STi? I really would like to see some pictures. Havent seen an O6 or 07 STi with TE37's at all so anybody who has these Volk's please post some pictures! Cheers, Benjamin |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Just to add fuel to the fire... I work for an aftermarket alignment firm and I can tell you that when we look at most modified vehicles with rapid tire wear one of two (three?) things is the cause; improper lowering/camber-correction techniques or improperly sized (read: offset) wheels. Going to a +40 offset on an STi can dramatically change the scrub radius, lower offset means a more positive scrub radius. So if you get tire feathering or pronounced camber wear at factory toe specifications, you'll know that the +12 mm or so you pushed the centerline of the tire out from the car is the cause. This increased wear will become even more apparent on a car with a neutral or positive toe setting. I'm pretty sure there is a good reason why Rays wheels makes a super high +50 offset 17x8.5" and 18x8.5" TE and CE with listed fitment for Brembo equiped Impreza chassis'. CMX168...from one Volk owner to another (I'm assuming); the words 'Volk' and 'cheap' should never be used in the same sentince. Unless you are using them in a fashion like, 'those Volks make my Rotas look even more cheap'. If I were you, I'd call an authorized Rays Wheel dealer and see if they can special order one (it will probably be two) for you. Expect to pay big bucks, but good luck on the budget minded hunt. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | WARNING: Way, way off topic. When I was in College I remember reading about the intersection of the vertical line from the center of the contact patch and the line of travel of the suspension in Sport Compact Car. One of their old editors, Dave, ended up claiming the intersecting point as his own and called it the 'Dave Point' since no-one else had claimed it or named it. For a solid year he'd babble on about scrub radius and the effects of toe and camber on that point; the 'Dave point'. I'm pretty sure that when I'd heard he left SCC to go work or Mazda I stopped reading. Anyway, yeah, nobody likes to listen to my (or anyone elses) diatribes about scrub radius, suspension changes impact on constant velocity joints and ball joints, or proper alignment techniques. They prefer to have flushed wheels and tons of camber for that oh-so asthetically pleasing (yet impossibly retarded) 'toon-er' look. This ad is not endorsed by this member.
