Default Time for winter tires, boys and girls!

Just put mine on today. Felt kind of strange to do so in 60 degree F weather, but when you've changed them in slush once...

So fellow owners, let's get those tires on!

Yes, you will have major problems. Read about all the schmucks who wrecked their cars driving on the stockers.

I run the stock size tire (225/45R17) in Dunlop Wintersport M3.

So far the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's are out-doing the Blizzak LM-25's I had last winter.

recently swapped on my wheels as well.

I have some Black ADR Intenses (7 spoke knock offs) sporting some Khumo KW-17s i road them last year and they were pretty awesome in snow and rain. decent in dry. was bored today so heres' a pic

and to those of you who think you'll eb okay in an AWD car....the awd will help you go - it won't help you turn or stop. my car was 10 hours old when i got caught in some snow....wasnt even sticking to the road, and the car took 25 yards to stop from 20. i saw the intersection adn all i could think to myself was "O F*CK - my baby's only 10 hours old"

i promptly went out and bought snow tires.

+1 for Hankook Icebears. Have only had dry pavement time with them so far, though. Fairly quiet and reasonably stiff for a full winter tire.

I thought a big selling point of AWD is that it helps you turn. Of course it doesn't help you stop, but if it doesn't help me turn, I have been hearing wrong for years

DARKSTI - AWD will help you turn better in many conditions while accelerating than FWD or RWD. But it doesn't actually increase cornering grip. It just increases your car's ability to put the power down and help the car go forward.

My rule of thumb is "winter tires on by Thanksgiving" and it has paid off more than once. December may be cold or it may be warm; but for some odd reason it snows a LOT on Thanksgiving. This year we had a nor'easter come through on Thanksgiving, starting Wednesday night and continuing throughout the next day. Early Thursday morning my outside thermometer read 37F. That's too cold for RE070's, and darn near ice/snow temperature.
