I got me tires changed over to winter tires yesterday and did a quick check of the rims after I left but when I washed the car today and found a mark on each rim. Tried to talk to the shop today but the manager wasn't there and the guy claimed this was normal.

The mark is a dent/scratch inside the lip and a flat scratch on the outside of the lip. Should you be left with these when they take the wheel weights off? It looks like they dug a screw driver under the weight to wedge it off?

Is this normal?

im pretty sure it's somewhat normal. when they put the weights on the lip, they usually bang it on there and when they take it off, they usually have to pry it off with a tool.

I'am guessing these were not steelies. The sticky weights can be done without leaving a scratch. Just takes more time to rub the sticky glue off after they got off the weight. For the outside, they use a weight remover.. which can be done slowly and not just jerk the whole weight off which will leave some kind of a mark.

On my '04, when the original set tyres were replaced I found marks - pair of dented `dots' left on each wheel on the recessed outer circumference. These marks are visible dots. Distance between them matches width of the wheel weight on each wheel.

I could only guess the dents were made either when original tyres were installed at factory or more likely the OE wheel weights had been pressed onto/into the wheel surface after prolonged use (the fantastic stiff side wall of the RE070 could be a factor, too).

The OE wheel weight looks & feels quality made with rubber backing. I wish they were non marring. I still asked the shop to reuse them as I am not comfortable with sticker weight so close to the front calipers. Turned out only 1 of 4 wheels/tyres needs any weigh!

From working as a tech at a dealership I can say that unfortunately this is somewhat normal. The "sticky" type weights are magnesium and go on the inside of the rim. Unfortunately the weights on our stock wheels get hammered on the outside lip and removing them with a pry tool will leave marks. The damage depends on how they were put on and how they were removed but there will always be some kind of mark since they were physically hammered onto the wheel and therefore must be pried off.
