I just got my first chance to check out my new Wintersport 3D's in the rain...much better than the Blizzaks in rain, but I haven't had a chance to check out them out in snow yet...

+1 for dunlop m3's in cold, rain, slush, snow. i've driven through hundreds of miles of slush/snow at hwwy speeds, stable as anything, total confidence. great tires. I'd buy them again.

of course not as good on the dry as summer tires, but that's expected.

Default Dunlop M3 vs RE070

For those who have experience or know about the Dunlop M3 winter tires. I order them on Tue, and will have them on later today. However, I wanna know how it compare to the OEM RE070 tires?!

I live in Seattle, and the weather don't normally drop below 30F, so instead of snow, we have lots of rain during winter months. My reason for choosing the Dunlop M3 are as follow:

1> Hydroplaning Resistance
2> Wet Traction
3> Occasionally snow capability

My questions:

Since the RE070 are not suppose to be very good with Wet Traction and Hydroplaning Resistance. How much better can I expect off the Dunlop M3?

How much worst on dry? compare to the RE070??

Wanna share your opinions with the M3 (non-snow) performance vs RE070.

Thanks
EL

I've been running the Dunlop M3's for about three winter seasons now in NJ. You are giving up a bit of handling with the Dunlops over the RE070s but that is to be expected. Hydroplaning resistance, wet traction and snow traction are superb. I've driven in on completely snow covered roads with no problems.
Tread life is great and I am still using the same set I bought in 04 on my 06 STi

I've got M3's on my winter rims. The traction is less, but the tires have a progressive feel that makes spirited driving entertaining. Compared to RE070's in cold weather, the M3's kick ass.

The comfort level is 10x better than RE070's -- I thought I broke something when I went back to summer tires my first year.

I've got the M3's. GOt them when I moved to CO. They are amazing in the snow/rain. Went up to a basin last year when they got 14 inches the night before, I was amazed how good the traction was. The feel on the road is much nicer than the re070's, but or course they don't have quite the handling that the 070's do.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot about that. When I first put the RE070's back on this past spring the car sounded so much louder I thought maybe I had left the back seat out or something! And the ride was so hard I thought I must have found a hidden "turn suspension to rock" button.

For winter tires I went with Toyo Snowproxies. They are great in the rain and even better in the snow.

Dry performance is very good, I have gone very fast on these tires.

I would recomend them to anyone who wants a great winter tire that still performs on dry roads.

I have my Dunlop 3D's on now too. They are much quieter than the 070's. They feel like marshmallows compared to the 070's though in the dry...but they will be worth it in the snow

I'm on my 3rd season on wintersport M3s. Excellent in the rain, snow and slush. They are pretty good when its not wet out also. The sidewalls on them are pretty damn stiff too. Very good high performance winter tire.

Can anyone give a comparison between the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 and Dunlop's new Winter Sport 3D?
How about between Toyo Snowprox S592 and either of the aforementioned Dunlops?
I pick up my car tomorrow night and the next couple of weeks is looking mighty cold, wet maybe even wet snow.

The 3D's are the new version of the M3's. They should be the same or marginally better.
