Default Avon Tech + ASA = Love in Blizzards

for what its worth - i picked up the Tire Rack package for $1000 - Avon Tech 550s and a set of the ultra cheap ASAs...

then, we had a blizzard last week here in Colorado Springs.

i pulled out of my carport in reverse in 18" of snow w/an inch or two of ice as a base. Has no issues at all.

Drove around the local parking lot that hadn't been plowed - 12-20" of snow and ice - again, i went thru it with no trouble at all.

Icy street outside my complex? No problem - no slip - all grip.

Pretty much, if you need a cheap swap-out for the Potenzas - and you want it so you can NASCAR yourself back and forth - i can't think of anything better.

damn.. i love this freakin car.. i have a half inch of mud half-way up my car now - its brown/sliver... i love it!

How is the quality of the wheels. I'm considering them?

i scratched the inside of the sockets where you put in the nuts (wtf is that called???) when i put them on - they don't have a lot of clearance with my particular tire iron...

they didn't seem to be much heavier than the stock BBS setup from what i could feel with my hare hands.

they have an uber-dorky center cover on them (its almost Engrish in its text)... but they seem to work great for me.

I went up to Winter Park this weekend - did donuts in the mud and snow and drove thru some very muddy trails - i swear, i have better handling in the snow than i did in my old Jeep with this car.

the wheels won't win any beauty contests, but i've already debadged my car so that its nearly indistinguishable from a standard WRX, i leave it muddy looking - i'm not trying to impress anyone with this car but me until i leave your ass behnid me.. so even if they look a little stupid, that's just an enhancement in my eyes...

so.. my opinion may not be worth much to many...

if 120mph = highway speed, then, yes, i have.

No, no vibration to speak of ..

BUT like any tire/wheel, if you go out in the mud, you could get inbalance from the mud and will need to wash them out.

i had to learn this the hard way 10 years ago, a SoCal noob to living in a place with weather.... the guy at the tire place looked at the tires on my Accord and told me "wash your car and get the mud out from inside the wheels, dumbass"
