235/40/18....They suck in the rain. Wear is good. Might get another half season...2 months maybe. About to put the winter rubber on next week. I'd buy them again....very sticky once warm.

you are going to be using winter tires right? these tires are not good with temps below 40 degrees...fyi

I'd only be using these tires in the spring/summer/fall, no winter.

If you don't race and don't need absolute grip, buy something else. Used 070's are a good choice, MX, or any of the many good tires around $100.

As for the straight line performance, the 245/45 will add a little bit of rotational inertia/mass too which would hurt performance. To what degree, I don't dunno but if you're were an autoxer they'd be a great choice since the greater diameter would help gearing.

Have you considered the Kooks RS2? They come in a 245/40.
How will a taller tire affect help/hurt our short gearing? Someone please clarify.

245/45R17=811 rpm
225/45R17=833 rpm

Tires affect gearing. Think of the effect of adding monster truck tires to something. 1 revolution of the wheel takes more distance, thus gearing is taller. If a tire has 5% bigger circumference, it will roll 5% less times per mile... etc. So what used to read 50 mph now is 52.5 mph, etc. but the stock speedometer is actually very optimistic so taller tires help bring it back to reality.

Taller gearing means less torque but longer speed spent in a gear so for autox, you could hold 2nd longer if you had 245/45R17 as opposed to 225/45R17. So redline would be closer to 60mph than 58mph in 2nd stock.

For autocross most classes, except stock, allow you to bump the rev limiter. So, 245/45/17 + 7200 rpms = better for autocross.
