IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | The 225 RT615 isn't going to be as wide as the RE070s. Even though the Falkens run wide, they're still not as wide as the RE070s. I wish they made a 245/40 in the RT615 but the only have 235/40 which is a we bit small especially with STI gearing, and the 245/45. As for the straight line performance, the 245/45 will add a little bit of rotational inertia/mass too which would hurt performance. To what degree, I don't dunno but if you're were an autoxer they'd be a great choice since the greater diameter would help gearing. Have you considered the Kooks RS2? They come in a 245/40. IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | Well I definitly don't want something that'll hurt straight line performance.. Why wouldn't they be as wide as the stock tires? 225/45/17 is a 225/45/17, right? What makes them different? |

falken's run wide, i think the 245 falken is 9.6 overall length the 225 are smaller obviously. keep this in mind, if you want straight line performance make sure the tire is lighter...the 245/45 are heavy...27-28 lbs each. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | for my next tire i was going to go with the rt615s 245/45/17 .. Should i ?? i track the car and go on alot of canyon runs durning the year . or should i go with a smaller rt615 what do you think .. And from the look of it the rt615s 245/45/17 are only a pound more then the stock tires .. what do you think .. and these are going to be on the stock BBS rim .. I will be also running the RCE spring with mostly groupe N top mounts both rear and front with mabey some camber bolts .. Since i mosly us it for a normal daily driver .. with some whiteline sway bars soon also .. give me your thoughts |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | They're not a long-lasting tire. Expect under 10,000 miles (closer to 5,000 than 10,000 if you track them or drive them hard). |

| Amateur STI Driver | Good thread.. I have 225/45/17 RT615s.. great tire after the stock RE070.. I haven't been to any AX yet but at 10k I am almost done. I rotated at around 7.5k thinking that was probably half the life..but I have to change pretty soon now. I have a knack of going fast around on/offramps.. thats pretty much.. If you like the stiff sidewall then stay with the RE070 because even though the RT615 is closely compared to it..still falls behind a bit. My next tire would be again the RE070 since I got 20K out of those. Yes the tread rating is lower on the RE070's but I got more mileage out of them.. I drove them harder btw..since it felt more planted. Tires are very important and change the feel of the whole car. If you spend a little over 200 on a set I think its well worth it. You are using these tires for at least 10k miles or over..then might as well enjoy them more too. My setup is nothing special.. Prodrive springs/WL 27FSB/24RSB. Will be getting RCE spring/camber plates and ALK. Handling is very important to me so go with the better tire... my 2 cents |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (8) | I'm at 30,000 miles on my stockers.. they are bald as Jesse Ventura's head ![]() I'm not sure if I'm going to end up going with the Azenis.. I drive my car a lot and it seems like these just don't last long at all. Hmmm.. not sure what I'm gonna do. |

| Platinum Member | The 245/45 looks perfect on the stock 8" rim. If you really must have a lighter-weight tire, you'll need to look for something with a less-stiff sidewall. Milchelin Pilot Sport PS2 comes to mind. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | I have 255s on my Evo with 5k miles on Rota Slips (17x8.5). So far they look like I've used 30-50% of its tire life. I have been to 1 road racing event and 1 quarter mile track day. They do extremely well after a couple of laps on the road course. 245/45 are too tall in my opinion. I've read several threads and I can't quite understand if 255s on stock BBS would work on an 04 STI. I am picking up a 04 STI and I really want to keep using the same type of tires. The gold BBS rims are too hot to replace. The car has STI springs and hardened strut tops. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
