Question Lightest and strongest 17 x 8.5 inch wheel for 2004

OK, who wants to tell me what wheels to get?

I was planning on getting Enkei RPF1 but can not find them in 17 x 8.5. They seem strong and light and are not too expensive. If anyone knows how to source a 5 x 100 RPF-1 in 17 x 8.5 inch size that has a Subaru friendly offset and clears Brembos let me know.

Otherwise, I will take recommendations. I would like 8.5 inch wheels so that I can mount 245/40/17s or perhaps 230/45/17s. Click the link in my signature to look at my journal for suspension mods. Strong and very light are priorities and I do not want to spend a fortune.

Anyone, T3h_Clap?

No they aren't but they are very light for a cast wheel. If you want strong and very light, go with CE28N's. They are insanely light and forged as well.

My favorite. The te37's are supposed to be stronger if remember correctly.

Thanks for the replies. Forged is not absolutely required, strong is required. I understand the the RPF1s are very strong, they are very light (about the same as similar size CE28N I believe) and very inexpensive.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Rota G-force 17X8.5 with 255/40/17 Falken Azneis, rear fenders were rolled

not sure how strong the wheel is but if you ever bend on one the track, you can afford to throw it away and buy a new one. I wouldn't have the heart to run Volk CE28s or TE37s or SSR Comps on the track due to their price. And usually strong and light = big money, so be ready to spend a "fortune" if you must have something to meet you requirement.

Another choice would be Enkei RP-01, not sure if they have the correct side/offset, but they are light and relatively strong however they are discotinued so good luck on your search

57F is another option. Almost as light as the ce28n and half the price

Where can you get 17x8.5 57f's for half the price of CE28N's? All the current "deals" are for 18x8.5. I'd be all over those if they were 17", but I don't want a 18" wheel/tire.

17x8.5 +44mm 5x100 CE28N.

strongest, lightest wheel out there for the price.

and if you're not going to run a stong and light wheel on the track what's the point in having one?

CE28Ns are only "bling" b/c the race teams run them, and they run them for damn good reason.

RPF1s don't come in a subaru friendly offset in 17x8.5 (5x100)
RP-01s don't clear brembos
57Fs are not as strong as the CE28Ns
Rota G-Force (i'm sure you guys know my take on these ).
TE37 doesn't come in an 17x8.5 5x100 at all.

OP, have you thought about upgrading to the MY05 Hubs?

instead of sifting through your journal, if you could post your suspension mods that'd help with tire size options. (only the ones that matter for clearnace (springs/struts, coilovers ect.)

suspension mods:

Whiteline steering rack bushings
Cobb front and rear sway bars
Cobb rear endlinks
KW Variant 3 coilovers
RCE front camber plates
Rear group N top mounts
Whiteline ALK
JIC front strut tower bar
TB Racing STi replica rear strut tower bar

Alignment -2.5 fronts -1.5 rears

rear fenders not rolled yet, but can do it if needed.

Toying with the idea of putting Pilot Sport Cup tires on these wheels.

Thanks to all for info so far and any more you can offer.

I'm interested in the OP's question also. I'm looking to upgrade to 17x 8.5 or 17x8 if I need to go narrower to get the proper fitment for my 04 car. I figure the wider rim would be better for a 245/45 V710 that is to be used for autocrossing.
I also have similar mod's, Tein flex's with Whiteline sways front and rear. I'm assuming that fender rolling will be required to fit 245's in the rear. Alignment numbers will be adjusted to maximize the setup as well as the ride height.
Sorry for the hijack, just that this post showed up as I was contemplating the same thing as LeiboWRX.

if you're willing to get the car to ~14.5" front and 14" rear you shouldn't have any issues rubbing. (FOR AUTOX!). my buddy with his zeals is running an effective offset of +33 (48-15) and 275s hoosiers, on an 18x8.5.

ONLY FOR AUTOX, it does poke and would kill bearings very fast if used for more than a few minutes 2 times a month.

do you have a budget for wheels?

Thanks for the response. My budget is approximately $1200 for rims. If raising the ride height to your recommendation would negate having to roll the fenders that would be great.
