Default 245/45 r17

so if i have this size of tires does that mean my 1/4 mile time will be faster or slower compared to a 225/45 tire?

you'll be slower.

more weight, the grip isn't always a good thing in the quarter mile.

good job on making your car slower.

Slower with everything else equal usually. Taller tires means it can not accelerate as quickly.

slower to accelerate but better torque transfer to the ground due to the difference in gearing and the circuference of the tire being larger. if you were spinning tires before it wouldn't be as severe w/ that size. you might actually trap at a higher speed and maintain your pre-tire size change e.t. due to the difference in gearing making it possible to roll out 4th gear further to the end of the track.

In 4th gear your mph difference between the 245/45 and stockers would be about 1 mph quicker. But that may be offset by slower acceration off the line. I prefer the shorter tire.

doesn't more traction mean better chance to break something off the line??

personnally i'd rather have less traction (still it's an awd) and higher trap speed as this means better acceleration (as on the highway).

245/45R17's are useful at an autocross where you don't want to shift to 3rd and then have to shift to 2nd again.

In the 1/4 mile, they are probably slowing you down.
