Really depends on the tire. One of my friends has RT615 on in 255/40-17 on the 17x8 wheels. The tires bulge, but they don't get any rollover.

This is the tire I'm looking at. Does anyone have a pick of the RT-615 255 on a 8 in rim?

Okay my 255/40/17 RT-615 came in. They are mounted on the sti 8" bbs wheel. They were a huge pain to put on and get the bead to seat. They don't seem to be too wide for an 8" wide wheel either. They sit pretty nice.

They looked huge compared to my 225/40/18 toyo proxes4 sitting side by side in the picture.
I've been autox all year in a street tire class we have setup here on the stock re070. I'm leading raw and Pax times for street tire but coming 15-18 overall out of 60-70 drivers. So i'm hoping these new falken's will let me run with the r comp guys at the top.
Havn't had a chance to try the new tires out so i will follow with a review in a couple weeks after and autocross event.

Only downside so far is that the 255 falkens are very heavy. It also take a noticeable more amount of throttle to get the car moving. But the car at highway speeds and upto 140mph or so felt alot more stable.
with espelir GT springs...NO RUBBING at all. Turning lock to lock and bumps out back no rubbing. amazing.
Thanks to Tintmasters.net in Fargo, ND for the great service and good pricing.

Left side Falken RT-615 255/40/ Right side 17225/40/18 PROXES4

Both sides Falkens

I have those on my car. The grip is pretty awesome for a street tire. It's quite possibly the best setup for an A Stock Street Tire STi. However, R-compounds are still markedly faster.

The problem with 255/40R17 tires is that they bump you from STU (if you're serious about being competitive).

I believe most 255/40 have a minimum rim width recommendation of 8.5" so if you're going to track them, would be safest to at least be at the minimum. Check the manuf specs.

I run a 275 on an 8" wheel with no ill effects.

sure I'm not utizling all of the tread but I have a wider contact patch than I would with a 255 on an 8" wheel.

if you're ultimate goal is a wider contact patch and you're limited to a certain rim width, be it budget or class rules then there is no reason not to. (except fitment issues (but i wont get into that)).

The reason Nasioc is the way it is, is b/c people don't search for a question and the people who actually do post helpful info get agitated b/c they've had the pleasure of answering the same question 15 times in the same week.

I'm going to start keeping a thread with important wheel/tire links....oh wait there's a sticky for that
