damn, now i'm really confused.

My old CE28 has 5x100 and 5x114.3 stamped on them. I can't see the 114.3 stamped on those ones.

And those holes don't look universal - the lug holes look recessed and the others not, like they're there for show????

I just got a Wedssport SA-70 to test fit on my 05. I ordered the 5x114.3. Opened the box and saw this on the back of the spoke

Notice the sticker says 5x114.

I think they must have different inserts for the center section of the wheel for different lug patterns. The 5x100 and 5x114 are probably close enough to just use the same casting and machine the bolt pattern for the specific lug setup. I'd imagine the 4x? wheels havesomething different on them.

I am now wondering how he got those wheels to fit on either the '04 and '06.

They won't fit on both bolt patterns. They are not a universal fit. If they are in fact 5x114.3, they will only fit 114.3.

The wheels are most likely forged with the hub pattern that will be able to be machined to either the 114.3 or 100 bolt pattern. Rays probably tracks these wheels by using an insert in the dies that stamps the 5x100 in there, they know that the 5x100 blanks are also used for 5x114.3. This saves them money in tooling.

I'm not positive that this is what they are doing here, but I know that the wedssports I recently got were also marked 5x100 on the inside of the spoke but were actually a 5x114.3 pattern to fit the 05's.

You're missing the point, look again on the spoke itself.

They are the same.

We were discussing the difference between 5x100 and 5x114.3.
