Just found out that the RE01-R is not available in Europe
Called the European HQ for Bridgestone directly, they hadn't even heard of it
Good thing tirerack ships internqtionally as well, just asked for a quote, I just hope shipping charges won't kill my budget

Does anyone have pics of 255/40/17 on the OEM BBS?

Exactly what I'm looking for and trying to figure out if the sidewall slop will be greatly increased versus a 245 tire.

Sidewall slop is not something that is measured its more of a feel issue. Tire pressure, temperature, and the specific tire will all contribute to "slop". If you get a tire with a very hard sidewall..."slop" will be reduced.

Ok not to bash anyone... I am just a visual person.

so what size is this:

The reason I ask that is because I don't like that look at all.. the tire looks too bubbly and just looks werid... almost as if the wheel is not wide enough to support the size of the wheel..etc. (again not knocking you, just not the look I want to go for)

Where as this one:

Looks much better to me... it doesn't bubble out as much... looks more flush like the OEM bbs tires...

I ask this because I am getting another pair of 05' STI bbs wheels and want the tires to look like this second picture but need to know that tire size..etc.

Thanks much,
-Nigel

That, my friend, is race rubber. 275/40/17 V710's. That is the look of fast autox lap times. If I were going for the hella flush look I would get 235's on a 35-40 offset. Trust me...I dont drive them around on the street. For one I need 8mm spacers in the rear and a 3-5mm spacer in the front.

Believe me I know the rims are too small for the rubber. But all things being equal, you will get faster lap times from 275 on a 8" rim vs 245's on a 8" rim. I would love to streach them out on 9-10" rims but that creates a whole other thread about fitment issues, fender rolling, fender flaring, cut fender liners...and most of all $$$$. So you do what you have to do on the budget you have.

Yea definatly! I understand for sure!

It just throws me off when I see pictures of things and when I think I have an idea what the numbers mean for tires I see a picture of someone say I have "x" and I am like wow... that looks either good/bad to me.. and then I am back to square one on not knowing which tires that I need to get...

Here is example of what I don't understand: Actually I'll copy and paste what I posted in the other thread:

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

They are $160!!
245/45/ZR17

Is that correct for the BBS wheels? I am lowered on RCE yellow springs...

Why is the same tire more expensive when you drop down to:
245/40/17
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

Will this also not make the tire looks like it's "bubbling" over the wheel? I don't want bubbly tires that look like the wheel is NOT wide enough to support it...

I'm very very confused now.....

Those are the right tires for your rims. I think the reason that the lower profile tires are more expensive is that they require more side wall reinforcment (someone correct me if im wrong). Also pure supply and demand may be in play with more people wanting the 40 series.

245's on a 8" wide rim is good fit. They will bubble over just slightly...they would be more "hella flush" on 8.5" rims quite frankly. That said you will at least get some rim protection. IMHO I am much more concered about a little rim protection over looking "hella flush". If you have a woman...please do yourself a favor and get a tire that is just a little bigger than you need. You wont look so cool with the hella flush look and custom ground off rim lips.

Here are some pictures of my 04 7.5" rims shod with 245/45/17's. As you can see they bulge but its not bad. Now consider 245/40's on 8" rims and I think you will conclude that they are not too wide.

polyol those pics are perfect. THANKS! I thought 245/45 was too large for the -04's?

Is that pic with the left turn at max left turn?

I shouldn't have a problem with my 2006.

So, i understand that the 245/40 and 45 will both fit, but as for street use, light auto-x duty, more aggressive DD style, whats the smarter choice? and which is more likely to rub?

45's will probably be better on the street...soak up more bumps, probably less noisy. 40's would be more agressive and will be closer to the original diamater when compared to the stockers.

My girl will never drive my car..lol

But see those pictures above that you posted don't look bad at all to me... I dont' see a "buldge" like on your other wheels...

The above is acceptable and looks good imho... :-)

So since a 245/40/17 would work what if I went to a 255/40/17... or is that more buldge?

Just trying to understand this all before I drop almost a 1g just for tires...lol
