Buy snow tires if you don't want to slow down and don't mind ending up in the ditch every once in a while.
wrong.

the reason why the tire manufacturer says that these are not to be used in the winter and the reason why most people crash their STi's in the cold/snow on RE070s is a VERY EASY ANSWER.

they are not for the snow.

if you or anyone else wants to drive in conditions that these tires are asked by everyone not to drive in, that is your perrogative, but do everyone on the site a favor and don't suggest there is no problem using these tires for conditions outside their specs just because you were able to creep along at 1.6 MPH on a flat level road.

read the title! Can I use my stock tires in the snow? NO!

Bringing this thread back to life, I was wondering if I can use the stock WRX wheels on a STi in the snow. From what I've heard, the regular WRXs come with all season tires.

^^To add to that, WRX wheels are all 5x100, so unless you have an 04 STi, don't bother.

Does your insurance company have the right to deny you coverage if you wreck your car driving stockers/ summer tires in the snow?

I traded my 04 in on my 06 in April 06. I was in Wichita KS and had to drive 79 miles back to Salina. Brand new 68 miles on my car, and it started f*cking snowing. I crept 10mph and got ****y a few times around 40 mph. I had SUV's passing me and laughing, only to spin out right in front of me. I had to stop and use the restroom so i tried to get off the highway. I started creeping down the on ramp, only to slide completely through the stop sign. Once i go stopped there was no way for my car to accelerate without locking the differential. I will NEVER drive with summer performance tires in the snow EVER NEVER EVER NEVER again. And for all of you that do, please stop b/c it's hiking up our insurance premiums when your dumb asses crash

I believe so. Same thing if you have bald summers and you crash in the rain.

This is kinda funny hearing about how you guys are sliding all over the place. Through stop signs, red lights, left turns and so forth. I guess over half of the people that buy these cars are not the most experienced drivers. I did lock the diff when it snowed.

I think that if you live in a high snow area you should get some decent wheels and snow tires. Heck buy another set of bbs's from someone parting out their car. I have though about using silver for winter and gold for summer.

Yes, experience does have something to do with it... But i don't care how good of a driver you are (or think you are), driving in snow with summer tires is setting yourself up for a crash.

these posts are going to get people killed.

it is not a limitation of the driver that is a problem, it is a limitation of the equipment.

imagine trying to jack up a 2000 pound car with a 500 pound max capacity jack - not happening. it's material/physical limitations that prevent you.

after post upon post from march 2004 up until today, and maybe 10 posts from people that are "experienced drivers" who claim they drive their summer tires in the snow (probably only on PS3 or Xbox ), please do not post that you can drive your summer tires in snow.

you can't.

for the eleventy billionth time, klaymon and his thread title says it all. NO!

^So true. I wonder why people keep saying they can drive in snow with summer tires. It doesn't make you a better driver if you can - it makes you an idiot and you'll eventually crash sooner than later.
