Default Koni Hoosier tires

I recently got a hold of a set of Hoosier Koni series tires in 225/45/17. They have some use on them but still have plenty of life left. I assume that these tires are very similar to the Hoosier R6 but am not totally positive on that. I would like to use these to Auto-X. The problem is that I am not sure if I will be able to get and keep enough heat in the tires. Has anyone run the R6 in Auto-X events? I am currently running REO70’s for events. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I am assuming you mean Grand AM Cup tires. I know that the official series has changed to Koni Challenge, however the Hoosier tires are Grand AM Cup tires. If these are indeed what you are referring to, then no they will not be a good autocross tire. I currently run these tires on my Mustang for open tracking. My home track is 1.8 miles and it takes 3 solid laps to get enough heat in the tires to start pushing the car. For your information, I run 37 PSI hot with these tires, but that is with a 2900 pound Mustang.

Yes that is the tire that I am reffering to. They actual do say Koni on the tire now. I figured that I would have a problem getting them warm. But the price was right for them. I will just keep them for track days then. Thanks for the information.

the R6 does out perform street tires during autox, but they don't heat up fully like the A6 does.

A6 = autox tire, heats up super quick and is a little stickier than the r6, does not last that long
r6 = race tire, takes a while to heat up, but is sticky, lasts failry long
GAC tires = takes the longest to heat up but can last MUCH longer than r6's on track.

I can go into more detail if you want but thats the jist of it

Sorry, I did not realize they currently say Koni on the side. Good luck with the autocrossing.
