Default R-S2 or Ecsta MX

I went to put my mud flap back on the car today and found this.

The others are just like it. Obviously time for new tires.

I have never know anyone that runs Hankooks personally, and I used to have Kumho's and enjoyed them. I have read good reviews about both however. One thing I did notice was that the R-S2 is compared more to the RE-01R, which, is my current, and favorite tire. However, when I got my RE-01R's they were $65 each less then they are now

So I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with both and would be able to chime in. Heck, any experience with either would be great to hear from.

Thanks

EDIT:

Dunlop D1 Star Spec

Kumho Ecsta MX

Hankook R-S2

I have looked at them. In fact, I was planning on getting them until I saw how badly I need tires. 225/45 and 235/40 are all on back order. 235/45 is in stock at tirerack but at about $25 a tire more I'm not too sure its worth it at the moment. I kinda wasn't planning on getting tires for another month or so if I didn't have to.

I'm going to call places in the AM and see whats around. If anyone has them and will match tirerack then i'll go with that.

I had the RT-615 on my prelude when they first came out. I HATE, HATE those tires. Never had a "performance" tire get so greasy so quickly.

Thanks for the input though. How did you like your R-S2's? Mileage?

The R-S2s are good tires, but they havea REALLY thin sidewall. For a budget tire, I think they're really good. I'm running RE-01Rs now.

If you're still on the stock rims, I'd recommend looking for a set of RE070 takeoffs. They're great tires, and people just love to get rid of them.

Don't have time to wait around for used 070's. I would love to if I could though. The STi is my only running car at the moment. The CRX in the photo above doesn't even have a front end on it.

Then go for the Hankooks. They may not be RE-01Rs, but they didn't have any bad habits.

Some tires will hold their grip and then lose it all at once with no warning. Others will chatter as their treads bunch up unevenly under the load. Pretty much any traits that make it difficult to control the car at the tire's edge of adhesion are called bad habits. The Hankook R-S2s I had didn't have any bad traits. They lost grip evenly and predictably when pushed past their limits.

Really, the only bad thing I can say about them is that they have a very thin sidewall so they don't respond as quickly as other tires.

Think about it though, would it be worth spending the extra for a better tire since you'll have them for quite a long time?.... maybe get a rental car for a few days, or ride a bike, take the bus?
Tires is one thing i dont think i could "settle" on just to get by

I ended up finding some Michelin Pilot Sport take-offs for a good price with about 60% tread left.
