Default 275x 35x18 on 2007 STI

Going to pioneer SM class with STI, probably hoosier A6 or kumho tires, ALSO run time trials with SCCA and NASA, May get second set of Toyo R888's for the track. My question is options on wheels, cost may be a factor, No spacers please. Considering Volk RE 30 18x9.5 35 or 40mm offset. But they are costly. Would like options that clear the brembo's. stresses on wheelbearing a consideration. -2.8 camber in front and -1.8 in rear. weight is a factor Thanks

Lightweight and the sizes you're mentioning are going to be costly, no matter what brand you get.

Using such a wide tire is going to add to the weight as well. Combine that weight with the offsets you're proposing and you'll see significant strain on those bearings.

What does that mean? Will the bearings last 20000 miles? 40000 miles? Who knows, but the strain will be higher than normal, that's for sure.

And you're obviously prepared to do body work to accommodate these rims/tires I assume?

Ask Mug he has the same setup, but i think hes got serious mods in the rear fenders, and more then 1.8 in camber back there.

Actually the Whoosiers weigh 23#, the Toyo's 25# and the volks weigh less than 20#, not sure exactly on the volk weight. I plan on pulling the rear , and rolling both front and rear, there is a guy we autocross with who runs 18x10 with 30mm offset, and 285 kumho's, but had to crank up his coilovers pretty high, I wnt to keep ride height about 14in front and 13.5 in rear. He runs BSP and is fast, 2004 wrx.

why not a 17x9.5 +38 rpf-1 with the 5mm spacer up front needed to clear the brakes? cheapest, lightest solution. or you could try the 18x9.5 +40 nt03+m. affordable, decent weight, very strong, but i think inner clearance may be an issue depending on your coilovers. i'm sure clap will chime in.

the 18x9.5 +35mm 5zigen FN01R-Cs clear brembos.

you'll be hard pressed to get 275/35/18s fitted with only -1.8 rear camber and a 13.5 rear ride height.

what suspension are you on?

you willing to do a good amount of rear fender modifications?

Thanks for asking, race compT2 500f/400r, considering the 5zigen. Yes alot of pulling in the rear. Can it be done and look right. Or do I wait till next year and do the wide body Kit - Hmmmm.

it can be done.

275/35/18 is also pretty tall, if you're looking at being low you may want to run a shorter 285/30/18 or stick to the 265/35/18s

it depends how hammer happy you want to get and if you're willing to run -2.0+ rear camber.

Just checked the 5zigen are 29#? is that right. I could run -2.0 camber, Ihave in the past, run up to 2.2, 1.8 is just what miles recommended, and seems to work well

I guess a 285x30 x 18 would work in a kumho, the hoosiers get pretty wide. Somewhere Im running out of room, thats where I need the help. I Appreciate the input, Thanks.

I'm running Enkei NT-03 +m in 18x9.5 40mm with Hooiser Cup slicks in 275/35/18. I'm using a 10mm spacer in the front to clear the brakes and it works very well.

I have rolled and pulled my front and rear fenders as far as I can go by hand and a steel tube. I'm running front camber anywhere from -2.5 , -3.0 and the the rear camber -2 without any issues. I'm also running pretty low to the ground too. I haven't measure it yet.

Here's the thread I posted while back on my set up with pictures:

New Fender Mod Today

Oh, I forgot. I'm on RCE T2 with 700/600 spring rates.

i think the issue for the OP is going to be spring stiffness/ride height.

assuming he's willing to do the needed fender mods he can make it work, but he'll only be on 400lb rear springs.

there is a set of 18x9.5 +35mm 5zigen FN01R-Cs for sale in the Private classifieds here (New In Box). the guy's name is Splash I can help you track down the thread if you're interested.

now, I feel the 275 maybe too much for your setup.

if you were to go to a 265 or a 255 on the 9.5" it'd be more feasible, of course you can always go wider in the future once you've pulled the fenders as far as possible.

No spacers? Good luck. You are trying to stuff some big rubber under there on 40 offsest rims. To many variables as stake to even entertain a no spacer policy IMO. Not saying it cant be done but you will most likely have to noodle around some using spacers.

It's possible in the rear, with the right suspension and settings.
