Default Stick-on wheel weights fell off......

Last week, I had my new wheels mounted with tires and balanced. The technician said he had a hell of a time with one of the rims (Prodrive PFF7/RT615) and ended up using a ridiculous amount of sticky weights on the inside of the rim (like 10 of them)

Anyways, one day I found this long strip of weights sitting on my garage floor. Looking at my rims, I could not see any markings of where they might have used to be. I drove the car up to 65 mph and could not feel any indication of vibration (its the front left wheel).

Am I ok or should I go back to the shop and have it re-done?

take it do a different shop... if the guy has to use a ton of weights... the tire needs to be remounted on the wheel to better spread the weight difference and the tech should know that

rt615s have some "heavy" spots so they need to be mounted correctly to be able to balance easily.

if you're worried take it to a different shop and see what they come up with on a balance.

you sure the weights fell off your car and you didn't drive over some and they fell off when you stopped in the driveway?

I'm positive they are mine.....because its an uber long strip of weights, which I recall being applied to that wheel in particular.

And they look brand new, matching the weights found on my other 3 rims.

Even if I feel no vibration whatsoever, I should still get it checked huh?

I got them rebalanced - I'm going to go to an auto parts store and get some of that silver tape and place it over the weights so it doesn't happen again.

But I am never, ever going back to this wheel shop in particular:

1) Tech said my brand new Prodrive rim was "bent", which is why it took him a while to balance.

2) While having difficulty, I asked if it would help if he removed the tire, rotated it, and tried again - he said it wouldn't make a difference

3) Instead of carrying my rim from the car to the machine, or carefully rolling it, he carelessly rolled it across the floor, narrowing missing obstacles that would have definitely scratched the rim.

4) He hand tightened the lugs - by totally reefing on them - and then using a torque wrench AFTER. Um, buddy, they're probably tighter than the 70 ft-lbs you have set there....

I gotta find myself a reliable mechanic.

no doubt, but I don't have a wheel balancing machine in my garage

But first thing I did when I came home was remove the lugs and re-torque them. 2 of them were on there very, very tight.

Unfortunately, no.

I live in a small town with a lot of country bumpkin mom'n pop garages, who don't know a subaru from a lawn tractor.

Unless I drive 2 hrs into the city, I don't have much of a choice.
