Default Time to replace OEM tires for spirited DD

I have searched and read many opinions. The best tire for aggressive driving ( respectful ) driving seems to be the 070. I bought used 070's from mxpop last year. He gave me a nice deal.
1. but money is a factor ( if I buy new, either 01r or 615 )
2. I don't see used 070 tires now
3. I absolutely do not want to lose lateral handling- which is perfect for me w 070's
4. Wear- cost ratio is a curiosity - are the 615's cheaper per mile or either of the Bridgestones 01r or used 070's? If the verdict is stock- where can they be found?

My hunch is the stock 070's sidewall is what I heavily rely on
but how can I know without driving the other two most popular tires here?

Please help even though I can't afford to race!
thanks so much

Well, give the 615's a shot and see what you think. That's the only way you're really going to know.

If you are on a budget, I think many people will tell you to go with the 615s like myself. I didnt much of a loss, if any over the stock RE070s. And for a DD, I think they are more than you would ever need. I cant comment on the RE01Rs

Check out the Dunlap Direzza Star Spec Z1

Tire Rack has a very good write up and seach for some threads, this is a new tire.

I have them and love them. Very sticky.

i feel that the 615's wear down a little too quickly for my taste...i'm running the 255/40/17. The sidewalls feel a little more "squishy" compared to the re070's. they do grip a lot tho. I wish they 070's came in 255/40 and were as cheap as the falkens...

if i were to buy a new set of tires now i would probably try out the direzzas as well...

thanks guys
but somebody here has driven these tires and can more directly address the lateral movement ( softer sidewall related - 01r and 615 ) loss, if any
my hunch is to stick with the pricey OEM, but maybe because I am not pushing to limit, another softer tire is just fine.
True, I can try the 615 in what, 225? Or I can ask here!
thanks for your patience!

trust me on this... if you are only driving DD and not on the track the softer sidewalls will not make a major difference.

I've had RE050 Pole Position's on my car for about 15,000 miles now and they seem to be much like the 070's. I have only done one track day on these and they performed very well. The only problem I noticed though is they are much more expensive now than when I bought them. It's only a few dollars more for the 01R's now.

Tirerack's got these now in 255/40/17. I'm going to be considering these this summer as replacements for the OEM sized 070's.

What about the Sumitomo HTR ZIII's? Are they any good or are they crap?

Or the Falken FK-452?

hard sidewall is a characteristic of OE
Since I never used anything but 070
in my mind this car and the super hard sidewall are one and the same thing
it just so happens I drive laterally aggressively more than any other way
Eg turns and lane changes
I never drag race or drive for more than a second or two at 100 mph

So my driving style and the hard sidewall seem to go hand and hand
but until I speak to someone who
has switched away from 070 and can testify to their experience with the lateral handling loss, if any, I guess I'll drive on balding 070's !!!!

Thanks
oh. The new OEM by Dunlop, how is their sidewall
and price
