is is possible for the wheel to just pop off is that what that means?

If it helps the lugs are 12x1.25

Yeah, the McGaurds 12x1.25 is what you want. Best lug nuts you can get, so good that STi uses McGaurd. I bought these the other day. Super overpriced lug nuts but, I am G like that.
