Default Full-sized Spare

After this: How to: changing rear diff oil,

I've been seriously considering getting a vehicle with a full-sized spare. In my search, I discovered that as of 2006 the Forrester no longer comes with a full-sized spare, it has that horrible donut!

I also discovered that the tiny Toyota Yaris comes with a full-sized spare. wtf! If Toyota can fit a full-sized spare in that car, why can't Subaru fit a full-sized one in all their vehicles? I realize the Yaris stock wheels probably are about the same size as our donut spares, but cmon, it's embarrassing that Subarus are supposed to be this outdoor rugged type vehicle and even their supposed SUV that's even got a truck rating no longer comes with a full-sized spare!

All-Wheel-Drive vehicles should come with a full-sized spare standard. Subarus have been known to be the one company that come with AWD standard, I think it's about time they buck the trend and get rid of donut spares in their entire linup. At the very least, make the trunk compartment big enough to accommodate a full-sized spare.

I seriously want to write a letter to Subaru about this, any advice about the avenues to take?

Hadn't thought much about this, but you are darn right. I wonder if one would fit? Hmmm.

BTW, your post count is absurd! Holy smokes!

FWIW, the Yaris's stock wheels and tires are really no bigger than the average donut spare. It would probably be hard to make a smaller spare for the car. I'd say the car comes with five donut spares before I'd say it comes with a full-size one.

You can fit a BBS in the stock spare well if you want. It fits pretty nicely.

You mean just the rim, or with the tire? I just received my spare stock rim but have yet to mount the tire on it. I did a quick check with the tire and it didn't look like it would fit for my car, but maybe it does on an STi?

btw, I can change my posts count to whatever I want. I just like having leet in front

Then why were you calling that dinner plate it carries a "full-size spare"? And I'm not the MODERATOR who put his thread in the wrong forum (although I may be the one that moved it to the OTHER wrong forum ).

Then get the damn Yaris! Automakers cannot meet every need, Subarus are very imperfect as we all know. Its a space/weight/cost limitation, you're supposed to drive the ugly donut as few miles as possible until you can get your tire repaired, its not a full time replacement.

why do you want a full size spare in the first place?

would you drive normal on a tire that is nearly 1/2 the width of your stock wheels/tires?

i hope not.

i think it's subaru's way to keep idiots from really driving on spares.

That's the point. I want a spare that's a full time replacement. When you're stranded 300 miles away from home on a Sunday afternoon, you'll understand.

It's because I can't drive like I normally would that frustrates me about the donut spare. And I want a full-sized spare so I don't have to change tires twice.

How much added weight? I lost 27 lbs from when I first got the car, so with a full-size spare the whole setup is still lighter.
