+1

My personal set up is 17x8.5 +50 Volk CE28N time attacks with RE-01R 245/45.
You gain about 2 miles per hour in 2nd gear going from the 40 to 45 but lose some response.

If you are only going to do autocross with your car get the RE-01R 245/40 and have the tires shaved.

They should heat cycle out long before they are out of thread

I would go with the Dunlop Star Specs. They seem to be competitive with the yok's for a lot less money. RPF1 17x8.5 would be a good rim too. Stick in STU, the V710's will kick you to BSP.

I would get 17x9 and run the Bridgestone Potenza RE01-R 245/40/17. It seems most people in the street tire classes are running them, at leased in the SF region.

Get some Falken Azenis RT-615s, these are great street tires. I run them in in the summer and in SM. Last event I took 5th out of 15, and 7 were running R tires.

and they are cheap, about $110 on vulcantire.com

Stay in STU, sometimes I wish I would have, but went to SM based on the fun options I wanted to put on my car for street driving.

you need to find a faster region if you're getting 5th on street tires

Well I thought I was just that good

The other cars are set up pretty good, and of course my car is too, at least the ones in the top end of the class.

The winners best time (05 STi) was 36.889 and I got 39.16, a 2.271 second difference. Given that R tires are good for about 2secs on a course, and my car is not set up as much as his, I figure I am doing pretty good.

i'm saying that your region isn't very fast if there are any cars on street tires in the top 5 in SM.

not saying you're slow.

I'd get the Dunlops if I had to buy new tires now. (this is coming from someone who's been running the bridgestones) Stick them on some 17x9's and have a blast in STU
