Default Volk ce28n's for 07 STI!

Alright guys, so Im planning on ordering these wheels from World One, but Im not sure if I should get them in 18x8.5 or 18x9. I have an 07 sti and Im not even sure if 18x9 fits. What do you guys think I should go with, I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks

That depends. What are your goals?

Are you a daily driver? Track star? Occasional autocross?
What size of tire do you plan on running?
How far are you willing to go to make it work? Pull fenders? Crazy alignment? Or do you just want a bolt-on affair?

What kind of offsets are you considering?

You seem like the quy to help me. Let me give you the run down on my thoughts. Since racing is already pretty much my job, full blown track time is not in the works for this car. Im looking to build the ultimate daily driver that can tear up an autocross track or any other open back road scenario you could think of. So thats the basic outline of what Im looking for. This is were you guys come in, from what I just said above what do you guys think I should do as far as tire width, alignment, and offset, or even different wheel; do you guys think I chose the right wheel?

I'm sure Clap is going to ring in sooner or later to suggest the 9" rim. That being said, if you're only going to run a 245 tire then I don't see the point.

I think they make an 8.5" in the 44-47 offset range. You could run a 245 tire no problem, maybe even a 255 depending on your suspension and alignment.

the biggest question is how much camber do you want to run daily?

do you want 2 wheels street/track?

What suspension are you looking to run? Spring/Strut combo? Coils?

EDIT: and you made a very good choice in wheel lots of size/offsets available for the CE28N.

Correct if you've experienced different, but from what I've seen we can easily fit a 18x9" rim on an 05+ STi with nothing more than a bit of camber in the rear. Looking at my +44's in an 18x8.5" I have at least 3/4 of an inch between the tire and the strut housing, and another 1/4" before hitting the fender on the outside.

This is with stock camber bolts in the rear, and 245 series tires.

it depends on the offset, tire choice and suspension setup.

I'm not sure where you've seen it's "easy"

it's possible that's for sure, but unless you're on coilovers I wouldn't call it "easy"

"easy" is 18x8.5s since you don't have to do anything (as long as the offset is right).

Im starting to think 18x8.5 is the way to go. Half of an inch isent really that much more contact patch and I think with the 8.5, it wont be as much of a hassle. Thanks so much for the input guys; As for coilovers, I am definitely looking into them, still not sure what brand I wanna go with, do you guys have any suggestions?

18x8.5 +40mm CE28N is a decent fitment for the STi

There is a chance of rubbing if you run larger than a 235/40/18, the 18x8.5 +52mm is a very basic fitment that would work with Zero issues.

as for coils.

ZZYZX EM Coilovers
TiC AST Coilovers
RCE T2 Coilovers

Yeah I definitely agree, this was the plan all along, but then I started having thoughts about 18x9, hence me making this thread. So those coilovers are your top pics?

So just to be clear on all maters, what offset it my best option with 18x8.5?

depends what you're looking for.

do you want a no questions "fit"

or a little more aggressive fitment that wont have issues with your coilovers in the future?

if you're willing to run a little camber if needed i'd say go with the 18x8.5 +40mm

and yes those are my top 3 choices of coilovers for a street/track/autox STi that sees real street use.

So the +52mm will fit like a glove but will be harder to run camber with, and the +40mm might be a little more agressive but will support camber adjustments better, is that about right?

i would go with the 9's, its only gonna be an inch all around compared to your stock 17x8. but i agree with everyone , about the Camber issue. i personally dont mind the camber but then again its gonna be your daily so its up to you...good luck either way

if you're on a stock suspension and you must buy wheels now i'd do the 8.5 +40mm with a 235/40/18

if you can buy your coils now and wait to buy wheels.

i'd buy ZZYZX EM Coils with some nice spring combo suggested by Steve for your setup and an 18x9 +40mm CE28N with a nice fat 255/35/18 and -2.0 front and -1.8 rear camber for the street.

that's what i'd do.

but you're right on with your analysis of +40 vs +52

just add in that +40mm on stock you can't run as wide as +52mm (tire wise), but when going to coilovers the +40mm will allow you to run more tire then the +52mm.
