Post scca and autocross event tires

I am wanting to attend a few events and race. I was wondering what others are running on their sti. If people are running a dot tire or just a drag slick. I was looking into the tires on tire rack and didnt know if those were what I needed? Any ideas?

It depends on what class you want to run.

If your in STU you have to be on tires with a tread rating above 140 and no larger than 245 width
If your in a stock or SM class and want to compete you'll need R compound tires.

If your new to autocross I'd stay away from R-comps since you can cook a set at a single event if you don't know what your doing.

Personally, I'm in STU and run 245/45 Bridgestone RE-01R's on 17 x8.5" rims and I really like them.
245/40 is also not a bad choice. 245/40 is a little more responsive and 245/45 has a little more speed in the same gear and at the same RPM.

When I was running in AS I used 275/40 Kuhmo V710's on the stock 17x8" rims.

FWIW,
R-Comp tires for track and auto cross work are not the same thing as "drag slicks"
Drag radials tend to have side walls that are designed to flex.

^^^Yep, me too. But I'm on 17x9 now with 245/45's.

if you're new to autox it'd be smart to stick with a street tire, not because you'll wear out R-comps but b/c R-Comps cover up alot of mistakes b/c they are so grippy.

either run the stock RE070s or some RT615s, RE01Rs in a 245.

run STU to avoid the big boys with their R-comps and have fun.

i agree with Clap, especially if you're just starting the re070's will work very well on auto-x or road course

245s will fit on either 17x8 or 17x8.5 correct?

I just got a set of Dunlop's new Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpec's. In 245/40/R17 they are $50 a tire cheaper than the RE-01R's right now over at TireRack.

They are supposed to be 'comparable' but not better than the Advan and RE's. At $200 cheaper for the set with nearly the same performance you can't go wrong.

I wish I waited a week, now they are offering an additional $50 rebate or Ipod if you order a set of 4......

Talked to Luke at Tire Rack yesterday... Problem is Dunlop is still switching over to the new "Star Spec" tires and many sizes are not in yet.

No biggie for the OP though -plenty of great tires to choose from!

I was looking at either putting them on stock 17x8s or gettin rpf1s 17x8.5 for street/track. Will the rpf1s hold up on the street. I do have some pretty big bumps on the way to work. I will be running T2s w/ 500/400 springs
