Default Painting wheels...which primer?

I am using Duplicolor high performance paint but I couldn't find high temp primer. I ended up buying Duplicolor sandable primer but wanted to check if I should use something else. Is primer primer?

Primer is primer. Most people don't even use a primer when spray canning their wheels. I just got my paint from duplicolor in the mail yesterday and i won't be doing a primer either.

It can't hurt to prime it with what you've got though! I would recommend getting something abrasive to add some texture on the wheels before applying the paint and primer so it all sticks better.

Good luck!

Thanks, makes me feel better. Got two coats of primer on today and satin black goes on tomorrow. Apparently all coats of paint need to go on within an hour. Looking forward to getting the wheels back on the car, pains me to see it up in the air on the driveway.

As said above, primer is primer.

The only time you should use primer first is if the bare metal under the existing clear coat and paint is exposed. It doesn't hurt anything, though, if you use it over your existing paint/clear coat.

Like said above, scuff up the surface (really the clearcoat) before applying the paint to help it last.

I have to say the BEST primer I have ever used...one that actually sticks and will not peel if applied properly is Primacon under water primer. It can be had from any marine supply store.

Well I did it, two coats of primer, three coats of paint, two coats of clear coat. Got to say my gold Brembos look great with the contrast. Black and gold looks much better in my opinion than silver and gold. I was going to paint the Brembos red but won't now.
