Default RE040's for $225 or RT-615's for $600?

Looking to get some rubber for my rims. A local guy has RE040's, and offered a good price on them. However, i looked them up online, and the reviews were less then spectacular. The tires that i am really looking at are the RT-615s. A local place will give them to me for $600.

Any opinions on which setup i should roll with? The tires are both 235/40/18.

Neither are great tires... You can get MX's for under $600 from tirerack.com or for just a bit more you can get the Yok S.Drive's which are nice passenger tires.

It'll take more to get into good performance tires.

I've read good things about the RT-615's want to elaborate why they are such a bad tire?
