Default quick question.. about 5mm spacers

i have 18x9 +30 offset right now

and im thinking 5mm more would be nice to make the rims slightly more aggresive

is running 5mm spacers on the factory studs okay?

or do i need longer studs

thanks

i've seen a wheel fall off using a 6mm spacer.

I wouldn't trust it.

get some quality longer wheel studs from ARP and you'll be free to run what ever spacer you like.

i just ordered ichiba 5mm spacers they come with longer studs. i've seen dudes run 10mm spacers on stock studs, but that is crazy IMO. seen tons of dudes run 5mm spacers for years no problem. but anything is possible. the studs are good insuraunce. just make sure to get hubcentric ones so the weight is distributed equally instead of all on the studs...clap, where those 6mm one hubcentric? god that would suck! was the dude doin a auto-x run?

+1 on the studs, just remember to use a chase on the studs prior to use.

Alright I have stock rims and i'd like to push them out a little. What is the best way to do this? I don't want to go so far that I have issues with the fender. How far could I go and which parts would I need to use?

The best way to do it is to buy wheels that fit the way you want them to.

The best way to manipulate the OE wheel outboard is with hubcentric spacers and studs of appropriate length.

they were hubcentric and yes it was while autoxing.

the freaking front wheel plain fell off and bounced away.

destroyed his front fender.

he then proceeded to put his street tires back on and finish his other 2 runs.

rear studs are not a walk in the park.

if they are much longer than stock you'll need to disassemble the hub assembly to get them out.

some people have managed to do it without doing so but that requires trimming the "head" of the wheel stud to look like a D to fit in the ABS hole.

I change between the stock wheels for winter and work emotion's for the summer. The work's require a hub centric ring while the stock do not. What could I do that would work for both setups? Is widening the stance this little bit more fo performance or looks?

^Install studs that are long enough to accommodate both.

unfortunately that is for stock length studs. When I did mine with arp studs (~2x longer) there is no way in hell that you will fit an extended stud to fit.

There are 2 options

start by following instructions above from scoobymods and you have a choice of:

1) remove the entire rear hub assembly(i.e. bearings etc), replace stud and get new bearings pressed in.

2) cut a hole in the rear dust shield (the plate that the rear brake bracket connects to here)

Then slide your stud through. Patch the hole with something semi removable (incase you need to replace a stud and to keep debris out)

I did option 2 and so far no problems after 6 months and 4 track days.

* DISCLAIMER
do this at your own risk, i take no responsibility if you mess up your car.
