IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | Currently I've got Advan RS wheels in 18x9 +45 offset. They fit like a glove! My new set of wheels is available in two sizes, and I need help deciding which ones I am going to buy. (before you try.. the advans are spoken for!) 18x9 +35 18x8.5 +50 Pros of the "skinny" wheel: absolutely no fender issues, ever. 235/40 tires are cheaper. can run street friendly camber. Cons of skinny wheel: looks less cool tucked way in. everyone's got em in this size. Pro's of the "fatter" wheel: fatter lip, more aggressive look. "Evo" fitment means most people don't have em. more "flush" Con's of fatter wheel: Might have to work a bit harder on the rear fender to accommodate, or raise the rear of the car. will have to run more camber, chewing up tires more quickly. I'm leaning towards the 18x9 +35 still. I know they fit, it's just going to be tight with the fender. I will be running Megan coils -2 camber F and R. opinions? thanks guys!!! IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | you'll want a little more than -2.0 in the front. with a +35mm you might as well go to a 9.5. you hell bent on Advans? |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Between the two sizes, the 9" will protrude 21.35mm more than the 8.5", and the 8.5" will have 8.65mm more room on the inside. Its a tough question because I'm a big fan of 9" wheels. What size tire do you want to run? With camber, you could get the 9" to fit, but its gonna poke. I have a 17x9" + 38 and 18x9" +43, and the +38 is really pushing it. Here is what the +38 looks like with a 255/40 tire: ![]() So............ Compared to your current setup, which fits perfect, the 8.5" wheel outer lip will be 11.35mm further IN, or the 9" wheel will be 10mm further OUT. Both should have plenty of room on the strut. You would definitely have to roll/pull for the 9". I had to roll/pull quite a bit to fit my +38s, but it is possible, its only 3 more mm. If it were me, Id shop around for another wheel. But if you are dead set on it, Id go big or go home. 8.5 + 50 looks weak. edit: Clap, Im not trying to steal your thunder, Im just pretty damn bored at work and have a good understanding of offests. Even though we disagree on poke I remember when I was wheel shopping for the black racings, it was hard and stressful wondering if they would fit, with a "no returns" policy, so I like to help. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | no worries. just want to point out that the location of the wheel "lip" is not important (to an extent). When the tire is wider than the wheel, you need to be concerned with the total back and foward spacing of the tire. The wheel width will dictate the section width of the tire. BenW, I think with your suspension you should step up to a 9.5, no reason not to really. Unless you don't want to mess with the fenders anymore. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | He should buy the 9.5" prodrives then and paint them all the same color!!!! Yeah? I was just using the outer edge of the wheel as a reference point, as in, X wheel will stick out Xmm further. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | I realize where your #'s were coming from, but it doesn't tell the whole story. my point is, when using the same tire the X wheel Xmm thing doesn't work, b/c tire section width changes less than the wheel width change. it's a good simple way to check and it works for most people, I just dig a little deeper. Your math isn't wrong by any means. |
