I'm looking to step up to a 255/35 tire. If I could locate some 9.5" wheels, I'd do it, and run 265/35s. Using the MX as an example, the section width would be 0.9" wider. I think that's plenty feasible. With that being said, I don't think fitting a 9" +35 would be tough, but I guess I needed to hear it from you guys. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | Just do it and make it work. the new wheels in that unspoken color will look damn good. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | the "make it work" part isn't so bad, since track season isn't going to happen for 3 months. the part I don't like is the tire wear. Oh to have a widebody. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | ahh yes. if you add some camber that +38mm wouldn't poke as much. to run sub 40 offset you really need -2.0 camber and at least -1.5 in the rear |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | You seem to have a good handle on this subject... I have an 06 STI with a Cobb Stage II suspension kit. I run NASA TT and need to get a set of race wheels and tires. What would you suggest. I have no camber plates and prefer not to roll the fenders at this time. Seems like an 18x8.5 with a 255/40 would work. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | depends on the offset of your wheels. and 255/40/18 will not work as they are 1" too tall, especially on the cobb springs. if you don't want to roll the fenders, and are running cobb lowering springs you'll need to use a 235/40/18. you could go to a skinny 255 but the skinny 255s are usually high treadwear low grip tires. again if your offset is high enough you may be able to run a 245/35/18 but the again you'll be hard pressed to find a tire in that size. (V710, FK452 IIRC). |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Thanks, I'm gonna try for about a 43-45mm offset, think I would be better to stick with a 17" wheel/tire combo? I'm thinking of Hoosiers or Toyo RA1s. Some people think a taller section is better for road course use but I'm not conviced. I intend to run my first sessions on my current stock tire/wheel set and shoot the tires to see what the temps tell me regarding camber. Looks like most people suggest 2.5 negative all the way around. Not opposed to Cusco (or similar) plates on the front, but have found no real relief on the rears (except camber bolts). Eventually I will go with coil overs, but want to learn the characteristics of the AWD, etc prior to making that decision. With a 17x8 or 8.5 wheel it seems that I could get a good amount of meat on the ground without the clearance problem. Just don't want to throw my money down a rathole and not be able to to use what I buy in the future. If push comes to shove I will roll the rears, and eventually go to a wide body kit but that woul be mid-season at best. My first event is in January and would really like to figure the wheel tire satuation out prior to that (even though I said I would run the stocks for that event). Thanks for any help/insight you can provide. Last edited by bruski; 12-16-2007 at 10:11 AM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (7) | I would avoid buying wheels until you are on your final suspension setups. the stock wheels can handle a good amount of meat and you'll be ok with a 245 on the stock wheels. I would compete as long as you can on the stock setup with street tires, before making the jump to coilovers and R-comps. shoot me a PM we'll figure out your options.
