Here's my problem. I go to school in so cal and it's rarely below 40 degrees where I am, Redlands, and the worst it ever gets is rain. However, I live in Carson City nevada and the winters can entail up to a foot of new snow at a time and roads are usually icey most of the time. I'm going back for my winter break in a week and I need new tires that can handle the snow there and still perform well down here in so cal. I've looked at tire racks reviews of 4 tires, Testing the Next Evolution in Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires . Anyone have an ideas which tires would fit my needs best? I've also searched and the results I've found havn't intrigued me too much. Some tires are touted as great then brought down just as much.

get an extra set of wheels if you don't already have them and slap some snows on them. use them when ever you plan on going back home. it'll be well worth it.

The problem with all seasons is they are a compromise. Not great at any one thing, but not terrible either. If you don't want snow tires on winter wheels, then you have to get all seasons. That means you won't get awesome performance in winter or summer no matter what tire you buy. I recommend Kumho Ecsta ASX. They may not be the best, but they are cheap. They are VERY good for the money. Why spend a fortune if you are only going to be in the snow once a year? Just slow down a bit while you are home for a week. My $.02

lol, I'd get an extra set of wheels but theres no place to keep them in a dorm room and the issue isn't going fast in any context of the word, I needed new tires as wheel because the ones I have on the car are near bald.

I've got Bridgestone Potenza RE960A/S Pole Positions and they work great. Sporty (but not as much as say OEM RE070s), but a lot better in rain and snow. Also they are noticably quieter than OEMs, are less harsh, and obviously have a much longer tread life. If I hadn't gone with RE960s...I'd have chosen Pirelli PZero Nero M+S.

If I wasn't getting all seasons, I'd have stuck with RE070s or gone RE-01R
