Default Are winter tires a necessity???

Just wanted to get some opinions before I spend $600 on winter tires. I will most likely be doing an average amount of driving. No long trips or anything of that sort. Just a 10 mile drive to work everyday. Also, does anyone know the average cost to have the tires put on? I will be keeping the stock rims so I would just keep swapping the tires on and off the rims as the seasons change. I have a 07 if that matters. Any opinions would be great. Thanks

this should answer your question

The car is virtually uncontrollable in snow with RE070's.

What about all season tires? Or am I better off swapping every season?

summer tires for summer.
winter tires for winter.

if the temperature hovers around the freezing mark or below you need winter tires, even if you get no snow. summer tires stop working properly just above freezing (7deg c/44deg f).
all seasons are really "no-seasons". they are a compromise tire that doesnt do anything "well".
the other funny thing about all-seasons is that there is only 1 requirement to call them that. they only require a certain amount of void space in the tread to be named all-seasons... they can still have a summer compound.

Also, please place threads in the correct forum. How is a tire thread a general question when we have a TIRE FORUM. Try using the search button as well.

Pay attention. Thread moved and closed.
