IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | So i got a flat tire yesterday and the shop told me that they cant repair it because the screw is on the shoulder of the tire and that i need to replace that tire. researching on other forums i came across the comment that i should replace all 4 tires because the transmission will not 'like' having 1 new tire ant the rest half a way worn. My car has 12k miles on it; do I really need to replace all 4 tires? should i replace 2 (the damaged one and the one from the other side)? am I ok replacing just the damaged tire? This is a DD and i do about 6 AutoX a year. Thanks in Advanced. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

They say you shouldn't different tires becuase it will mess up the AWD system or something cause one or two tires are turning more or less then the worn tires and all that. I have had to replace a couple of tires. lucky for me though it was right around the same mileage as my old stockers in the basement so I would just find one that was close in wear and have that mounted. Been fine for me eversince. |

I do not know off the top of my head what that tolerance is, but for simplicity's sake, I'd say replace all four and sell the three old-but-good ones to autocrossers to recoup some of the cost. That's the safe bet, I think. |

| Platinum Member | In a perfect world where money didn't matter, I would replace all 4. But, I don't live in a perfect world and money sure as hell DOES matter... So I would replace at least the bad tire and the tire across from it. Your dif will thank you. |
