I guess I'm the only one here who speaks any Japanese besides teh first guy who mentioned it?

It could also sound like team honored-elephant-man.

I did a year long research project on Japanese speed tribe names. They rip off English words...so it's equally funny that we rip off their words for our speed tribes.

I think it's a bit silly, but it's clear to me now that it's really "cool" over here.


I did include some other TX based Japanese team names with no Japanese members as examples of the cultural exchange between Japan and the US of subcultural phenomena.


Also, Dosojin have a phallic connotation. They sorta look like mushroom-heads.
It's amusing. I don't see how anyone else DOESN'T get a chuckle.


There was one famous speed gang "DON QUIXOTE"

except they used some kanji to spell it out with sounds and unusual kanji readings including explosion (don) and chi (energy)

The guy who did the study was killed by a rival gang, sadly. His book is out of print, and pretty hard to find. Just do a search for Speedtribe on amazon and secure a copy. It's a great book.
