Default Bolting 3" AMR DP to stock 2.5" catback...

Has anyone here bolted a 3" DP (non-tapering) to the 2.5" stock catback? I haven't decided which CBE to get and I was thinking of waiting the winter and just putting on my AMR 3" DP right now and getting a Protune. I believe someone mentioned that you can just get a 3" gasket and mate the stock catback right to the 3" flange.

My alternative is to pay an exhaust shop to chop the stock cb and weld a 3" to 2.5" pipe (with 3" flange) to it. That might be a better alternative because then there won't be an abrupt lip at the joint (i.e. a nice 3" to 3" connection).

My last choice is to just make a decision and buy the Perrin stealth CBE (assuming it is a full 3") or something similar.

Anyhow, any suggestions on connecting my AMR DP to my stock catback would be appreciated.

We have installed plenty of 3" flat flange down pipes to the stock exhausts. You need a 3" gasket(your downpipe should come with one) and some bolts, don't re-use the stock spring bolts, they dont hold well enough and the exhaust flanges can slip apart. Take your time to get lined up as well as you can and tighten it down.

Thanks. Any suggestion on what size bolts to use? The DP didn't come with a gasket or bolts but I can easily pickup a 3" gasket (going to pickup a new DP-to-turbo gasket anyhow).

Thanks again.

I am out of the shop today, but I believe that we use 2"(or pretty close to that).

Those downpipe adapters, IMO, are a waste of money since you can make it work just fine with the stock catback with no adapter. Is it ideal, no, but it can be done. Most people who bolt a 3" flat flange downpipe to a stock catback are either to cheap to get a proper catback and therefor would never spend any extra money unless they had to(dont think you are in that group digitalfiend) or they havent decided on a catback a therefor it is a temporary deal and dont want to spend any more money(probably in that group).

We use a 3" vibrant gasket with 2 m12x1.5 2" long bolts, nuts, flat washers and lock washers.

Yeah, that's me. There is really nothing out there that I like. Everything seems to taper to a 2.5" and then that defeats the point of a CBE for me (I don't really care about noise too much).

I'm going to order a 3" Vibrant gasket and give that a shot. Got to pickup a new DP-to-turbo gasket too.

Are you considering the full AMR exhaust set-up? Would keep it 3" all the way right?

Nah I don't like the split-dual exhaust piping - too heavy and not enough benefit in my opinion. I still haven't installed my DP yet as I've been insanely busy with work.

I am wanting the AMR DP and possibly the rest of the AMR exhaust, but with the way I want it configured (with a cat and blackout option) it crosses over the $2k mark. With a baby on the way, I am hesitant at that price point. How do you feel the build quality of the DP compares to others you have seen? (if you have looked at others in person)

You might want to look at this:
Auto Master AMR - Home of the Worlds Highest Horsepower Stock ECU Daily Driven STi

It looks like it just came out within the last couple of weeks. It's a full 3" right up to the muffler. Personally, I don't really like any of the aftermarket mufflers out there and would prefer a full 3" piping (even if it ends up a bit restricted at the muffler).
