IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | So I am getting tired of seeing all the bent fins from Paleozoic sized wasps hurtling into my stock TMIC and finally purchased a Grillecraft hood scoop grill. My question is: Since the hood scoop grill cover is a tight mesh screen do you all think it would result in significantly less air getting to the intercooler and/or creating an inefficient airflow to the intercooler? Just not sure if I am over thinking this thing... This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Well it's not that fine of a mesh, but my assumption was that yes, less air will get to the intercooler. But is it significant? Probably not. I don't live in an area that has much high heat in the summer so it most likely will not affect performance. Just wanted to get a little sanity check from the forum... |

Like you, I am in a temperate climate with few hot days. There is no noticable difference that I can tell. Then again, I added a zero sport air flow doohickey just to be safe because I had wondered the same thing. Again, a part that offered no noticable difference. I just like putting parts on and spending money I guess. |

| Professional STI Racer | I'll tell ya what. I was pissed at the bent fins myself. What really freaked me out was when I realized that a hard rain was bending them! I went over to Home Depot, got a hold of some of that nice black coated grill work for a screen door. Cut it and put it over the IC. This stuff doesn't have what I'd call small openings either. But you know what? It cuts way down on the bent fins. Very, very seldom get one now. And it looks pretty good too. My .02 worth. Wait. Brushfire, is that your cool ass fire truck? -rain- Last edited by raindance; 09-16-2008 at 11:13 AM. Reason: Noticed the cool ass fire truck. |

| Amateur STI Driver | Here is what I did for my intercooler. I had some left over pieces of gutter guard I bought at home depot. I cut it to fit, painted it, then sprayed it with a rubber coating. I am also seeing way fewer bent fins with this guard then I did on my previous WRX. Link to larger pics: Picasa Web Albums - michael - intercooler g... -Mike |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Well I mounted the Grillcraft Hood Scoop grill on my lunch break. The instructions were for an earlier year, but it was easy to figure out. Some crappy cellphone pics below. Will post some higher quality pics if anyone is interested in how the Grillcraft hood scoop on the 08 STi looks. |

| Professional STI Racer | Yeah, look at ironhead1230's pics. That's pretty much what I did. Only difference is mine isn't gutter guard, it's that enamel coated aluminum and it's black. Works fantastically. -rain- This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
