Default Reverse ring thing

I'm having more problems with my STi. Just right now when I was coming back from work I was reversing out of the parking lot. For some reason the ring you pull up to reverse is stuck in the up position now. Why is it doing this??? I'm taking this problem to the dealer also, but I'd like to know why it's stuck now. Im kinda scared to drive it now, because I don't wanna be going 60 on the free way and then accidentally shift into reverse . So many problems at 800 miles already, now the little cover that covers your trunk is vibrating really bad. Im really hoping I didn't get a lemon....

The reverse lock out cable might be kinked or jammed in some fashion. You can check it under your car.

I had a friend who had a similar problem with his s2K. But bear in mind, the s2k requires you to push the lever down to engage reverse. When he pushed the lever down, it wouldnt go back up. Later he found out that there was air bubbles in the clutch lines, and when he 'burped' the system, everything was fine again. maybe you can try this...

^definitely not it the s2k is completely different.

I would be willing to bet its either the pin that holds the ring that is getting caught in the ball of the shifter, the cable, or its on the linkage connected to the tranny. I had a problem with the first one on my 05. Definitely make the dealer take care of it though.

Yes I can push it back down, but it springs right back up. Pushing it down doesn't stop me from reversing either.

Hi Ninja, my advice is to take your STI to the dealer for evaluation. Please see my previous post here: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2008-sti...o-reverse.html
They had to perform a total teardown on my transmission because it would not shift into reverse. Once they completed the repair, however, the car seemed to shift better, more accurately. Good luck!

do you have a short shifter in the car? if so the lockout cable will rest on the drive shaft and start wearing through the cable.

Honestly, are people really this lost? How about calling your dealership and scheduling and appointment? It's not as if this is going to cause any trouble, but you'll want it fixed. I don't understand how this could be so vexing or insurmountable of an issue to not know the proper path of getting it fixed.

Dealer first, message board second!

You don't have to slide under the car that far to see it.

from the driver side, slide under the car and that "clip" is located on the driver's side of the clutch housing.

Your right, actually you don't have to slide under your car for anything... because you bought it from a dealership!
