| Junior STI Driver | 08 STI oil life was 6000km Car now has 12,000km now VIN is Before the "Stop Sale" (manufactured 11/07) I had my dealer order in this magnetic plug for $7 CAD. Here are the results, any thoughts if i should be concerned and be in contact with subaru canada? Here it is as i pulled it out ![]() I then touched it to show the metal ![]() Here is it clean, and you can see the metal on the paper towel ![]() Future Warrenty issue? I have no symptoms of anything wrong, other than a rough idle (but it has existed since i got it at 20km) This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

That looks like normal engine wear... I've seen worse on cars during their first oil change. That engine look just about broken in. I would flush your system though and start using full synthetic. Where did you get the plug from? | |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | it's normal. looks alarming though, doesn't it? i like the idea of using a filtermag along with the magnetic drain plug. here is the filtermag in action, although all I see is a girl. I don't see the product or anything resembling metal particles. ![]() YouTube - HSPN SEMA 07 - Filtermag Product Demo |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | mine looked very similar when i changed it, its normal, subaru wouldnt even give me the car til they put the magnetic drain plug in, once they got it, they ran the car for a hour, changed the oil, ran it again for a hour, changed the oil, and ran it again for another hour and changed it again. They were supposed to be doing that with all the sti's after the engine problem started. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | When I changed mine at 2k miles I looked at the oil out in the sun and could see some glitteriness that looked like copper. I'm pretty sure copper is nonmagnetic so you won't catch it with the plug. It is what they were supposed to be looking for in conjunction with the stop sale. I suspect, though, that the amount I saw for a first oil change was normal. Also, my oil was far from fully cloudy, making me think I don't have any unusual copper problems. Frank |

| Junior STI Driver | I changed the oil at 1000km with Castrol GTX, Then to Mobil 1 at 6000km with the drain plug, and the newest oil change is Mobil 1. In all cases i used the black subaru filters. The drain plug can be ordered from any dealer New magnetic Oil Pan Drain Plug (1) (32103KA000 - only this P/N is acceptable) So in general ive been on synthetic for one oil change already. |

| Junior STI Driver | I would not have waited that long to change the oil. Those pics are proof enough for me to change oil early and often on a fresh motor. Side note, do you know exactly when they solved the bearing 'stop sale' problem? |

| Junior STI Driver | Theres a testing procedure outlined on a stickied thread in 2008 STI Dicussion. As how the solve this problem, i dont know, as my production date/VIN is before the "stop sale" This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
