| Authorized Vendor | Front Sway Bar (BSF39Z) Install and Impressions We finally got some front sways for the 08 STI today and couldn’t be happier!! The car really needs more roll resistance in the front due to the limitations in camber possible in the front suspension. The front sway bar is going to help increase front grip as it reduces overall roll by minimizing lost camber; definitely a good thing for this car. To start, get the front of the car up in the air supported by jack stands. The best place to put jack stands in on the rearward mount of the front control arm. Once on stands, remove the front under tray from the car. We did not get pictures of this step as it is quite straight forward. There are three bolts total that need to be removed, two in the front and one in the rear of the tray. There are two plastic “pop-its” as we call them high up on either side of the tray in the wheel wells that need to be removed next. There are also two clips at the rear of the tray that need to be removed. At this point you can remove the tray from the car. Looking at the car, there is a brace with ten 14mm hex head bolts that needs to be removed in order to gain access to the sway bar. This brace is directly behind the oil pan on the underside of the crossmember that holds the engine. There are three bolts on either side, two in the front and two in the rear. Remove these and set the brace aside. Pic of the brace: ![]() Now you have clear access to the front sway. Start by removing the endlinks from the stock sway bar. This is most easily done with a 5mm allen wrench and a 14mm ratcheting wrench. Use the allen wrench to hold the stud of the endlink that goes through the blade of the sway bar. Use the 14mm ratcheting wrench to loosen the nut. Do this on both sides. When the nuts are removed, push the endlinks through the sway bar to disconnect it. Now turn your attention to the mounts that hold the sway bar. There are two on either side that hold the bar to the chasis. They are held in place by a 12mm hex head nut and bolt on either side. Remove all four. The sway bar is now free from the car. Before you set it aside, grab the metal mounts off the stock bushings as you will be reusing them. ![]() Install of the sway is exactly the opposite of removal. First grease the bushings and place them on the outside of the collars on the sway bar. Hold the bar in place (the bar should be UNDER the tie rods) and bolt up the brackets (18ftlbs). Hook up the endlinks to the bar next using the reverse procedure with the allen wrench and 14mm ratcheting wrench (35ftlbs). Reinstall the front brace, then the under tray. Go out and enjoy your newly found roll stiffness!!! Pictures of the final product: ![]() ![]() Notice the angle of the endlinks. This bar is specifically designed for the 08 STI and has proper endlinks angles. When the car is under its own weight and not jacked up the endlinks are perpendicular to the ground. ![]() ![]() ![]() This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Authorized Vendor | Impressions thus far: Definitely a bit less body roll. More grip from the front end during cornering. Also able to get on the throttle a bit faster when coming out of a corner without the front end washing out so easily. The front endlinks are the same that subaru has used on sedans since 02. They are quite strong. We have used them on bars up to 32mm solid and have had no issues with them breaking. I have heard of only a handful of people having problems with breaking. The biggest issue with them is the allen head fitting on the stud will rust and lead to stripping when trying to remove the endlink. This is normally the reason we end up replacing them eventually. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | So, just to confirm before I order, you state the BSF39Z and BSF49Z are 24mm and 22mm bars, respectively? I'm confused because the Whiteline catalog and info PDF show BSF39XZ and BSF49XZ as being the 24/22mm bars while BSF39Z/BSF49Z are 22/20mm? I'm getting my info from here: http://www.whiteline.com.au/docs/catalogues/WL_0350.pdf Last edited by Digitalfiend; 08-01-2008 at 11:38 AM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | That's exactly what I thought. So I TiC only has BSF39XZ (24mm front) and not BSF49XZ (22mm rear). Clint, any idea when you'll be getting the 22mm rear bar in? Looks like I've got quite the list of parts to order on Monday: - Rear subframe bushings - Rear differential bushings - Steering rack bushings - LCA bushings - Front sway (BSF39XZ) - Kartboy shifter bushings (complete set) - Kartboy or Whiteline front endlinks It looks like I might have to wait for the rear swaybar unless it is available now. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Oh you've got to be joking...it looks like TiC still doesn't ship to Canada, even after all these years. Clint, what's up with that? You're like the only vendor that won't ship to Canada. |

| Authorized Vendor | We used to, but it was quite a lot of work to get it there. Plus we now have a distributor in Canada to help get the parts to you for less money as you are not paying shipping and VAT. Touge Tuning can get anything from us that you need and get it to you quickly. Please contact Chris and tell him that you want to get those parts from us and he will work out the details.
