I am trying to install a Kenwood head unit and use the PAC SWI-JACK to retain my steering wheel buttons.

I cannot find the 8 pin plug PAC says I need to hook into. Shown here in step 2

I think this connector is in the steering column, or under the dash. Can anyone help?

i have the pac.. it's one of the main radio harnesses.. if someone doesn't beat me to it, i'll pull my head unit out and snap a pic.. it's pretty simple

only 1 wire to tap.. the violet white wire on that harness.. if you put in the kenwood, then you actually plugged your wiring harness into this plug

Did you look at the link I put up to PAC's site? There is not a plug behind the stereo with 8 pins and 8 wires. There is a small plug with 8 positions, but not 8 wires, and no violet and white.

I called Crutchfield, and their tech told me the plug I am looking for is somewhere on the steering column. I also thought it could be tappd right behind the head unit, but he said it needed to be tapped before it ran through some other electronics that it hit on the way to the head unit.

You use the yellow and brown wire out of the larger harness that plugs into the back of the OEM head unit. I just hooked it up, and it works. The only disappointing thing is the short delay when using the steering wheel controls through the PAC interface. You get used to it though.

Yeah - I don't know where that other one the OP linked to came from, but this is the right one. I worked with the PAC techs to test each wire and figure out what was what.

The delay is a bummer. I wish that they could do something about it, but the PAC guy said it is more on the radio side than their side.

JWA, is there a wire in the main harness that can hook to the "illumination" wire on the aftermarket HU so the lights will dim when the headlights come on?
