Default Power steering fluid question?

Owners manual recommends “Dexron III” Type Automatic Transmission
Fluid.

I need to top up my fluid but I am confused as to why it says ATF fluid?

Thanks for any help. Hope I am in the correct section.

That is correct. Use Dexron III ATF. It is red. Do NOT use power steering fluid.

I have seen a few people on here using red line. i guess this is why my question came up.

i'll stick to the manual for now.

Why do you need to add PS fluid? You shouldn't unless there is a leak or the factory messed up.

I got some air in the lines and now my fluid keeps boiling as soon as I turn the car on. There are no leaks. What could be causing the fluid to boil immediately?

there is no way the fluid is boiling immediately. How did you get air in the system? We have some motul ATF that has a higher boiling point than regular ATF. Should work well if boiling is actually your problem.

let me restate: I keep getting air in the lines no matter how many times we work the bubbles out once we start the engine the air comes back. and the fluidkeeps boiling over if we drive it -- net result smoke under the hood. We put in a turbo inlet, tmic, tgv deletes, and walbro fuel pump. Any ideas?

Is your PS pump making noise?

Yes the PS pump is making noise with engine revs... louder if I'm turning the wheel. At first we figured that was just air in the line.

Here is my theory:
- When they redid the inlet they let air in the line.
- They should have cleared the air before they dynotuned it.
- They ran the engine hard, which ran the pump hard with air in it and that broke/cracked the pump which is now pumping air in.

If I just start the engine and do nothing else, it start bubbling which says PS Pump to me (also no leaks).

I took the car back to Subaru this morning. We will see what they have to say. JDM is $400+. Ouch. I don't suppose anybody makes an aftermarket PS pump I should look into while I'm at it... HA.

Try tightening or installing new clamps on the suction hose leading to the pump. It could be sucking in air causing both all those pump noises and the bubbling in the reservior as it returns.
