Default 2008 STI 17-inch wheel fittment thread

OK, according to the current wheel fitment thread, there is a 2008 STI 17" wheel fitment thread. I don't see it anywhere, so I guess I am blind. In lieu of it, I was wondering if I was the only one curious about what 17" wheels will fit.

So far I think it's common knowledge that the 06-07 STI wheels do fit, although inner wheel tapeweights tend to get ripped off with the calipers. I've also read that some other Subaru OEM wheels do fit, as they are offered as dealer installed options (generally not in the US due to the VDC). Anyone have luck personally fitting other 17" wheels on the 2008 STI? Which other Subaru OEM 17"s fit?

New bits: Cusco, Stage 2, KW, Harman TBE, Advan RS's

Pics of mine with 17x9's (+35) Advan RS

Love the wheels, they get me a bit of acceleration from the gearing (tires are smaller in diameter) and they weigh substantially less than 18's

Any wheel that fits the 05+ STI will fit the 08.

While I want to believe you, the larger sized calipers on the +08 STI means there will be 17's that won't fit, the point of the thread is to figure out which ones will clear these larger calipers. For that matter, I would encourage people to post wheels they know WON'T fit.

The calipers are the same. The rotors are fractionally larger.

See, now, I've read the exact opposite here, that the rotors are smaller but that the calipers are larger. It certainly looks like that, too.

Well the specs on the Subaru.com website say the rotors are slightly bigger compared to previous years, and I've always heard the calipers were the same, just black. I've been wrong before though...and I seem to remember somewhere that the originally advertised specs Subaru provided were slightly inflated.

Subaru also said that the 2008 STI would continue to have an aluminum hood, and we know how that turned out.

I was told that the calipers are exactly the same only painted black to give it a more mature and stock look. The rotors are definitely bigger, if only by marginal still bigger. I doubt the calipers went bigger and the rotors went smaller- they wouldn't work right at all.

The front calipers are identical. I have compared them. The front rotors are identical. I have compared them. Actually, I buy rotors for our 08 that are made for the 05 and they are exactly the same and work exactly as they should. The rear calipers are identical. The only part that is different is the rear rotors. They are a slightly larger diameter IIRC. The stock 17's from an 05 fit perfectly fine on the 08 and with the same clearances.

I wonder what sort of crazyness Subaru employed to make the 08 STI brake so much better, then.

They're better? They seem exactly the same to me.

"At least the brakes are more than a match for the acceleration. The only major change to the Brembo system is a 0.3-inch increase in the diameter of the vented front and rear rotors, yet stopping distance improves significantly from the 115 feet we recorded on a 2006 STI to a remarkable 106 feet for this one."
